The Fire stick is one of the best options if you’re looking to casually stream on a non-smart television. When you compare a Fire stick to a Chromecast or Roku, they’re actually all very similar to one another.

But unlike a Chromecast and some other streaming devices, it’s actually pretty easy for you to reset your Fire TV stick. This can come in handy if you do have any issues with it at some point down the line, or you want to get rid of all your saved data.

The process for doing this is actually very straightforward and easy. Here’s how you can do it simply without any hassle so you can get back to watching The Mandalorian.

How to reset a Fire stick quickly

If you want to reset the Fire TV stick, there are three different main ways that you can do this. This consists of;

  1. Resetting your Fire stick using the settings on your device.
  2. Using the buttons on your remote control to perform a factory reset.
  3. If neither of these two options can be done, then unplug your Fire stick to soft reset it.

The first two will allow you to fully reset your Fire stick, whilst the third method is really just a backup incase you can’t even access the menu on your device. All of these methods are fairly basic, but I’ll run through them quickly to ensure that you know what you’re doing.

1. Reset a Fire TV stick via Settings

Although there can be a bit difficult to navigate, Fire sticks are actually very easy to use once you get the hang of them. This includes using the Settings to change their functions, and if necessary, to reset the device.

Within your Settings, you’ll need to go to My Fire TV. Here, you’ll have the option to simply restart the Fire TV stick (a soft reset) or you can fully restore it back to its factory settings (a hard reset).

Then, all you need to do is go ahead and confirm the Reset of your Fire stick. It should take a few minutes for this to fully complete, but once it’s done, you can use the Fire TV stick like new again.

2. Using the remote

In some cases, you may not be able to gain access to the settings on your Fire stick. If this is the case, then you’ll want to try and perform a hard reset by using the buttons on your remote control.

You can do this by using the back button and the right button (of the circle) on your remote control. Hold both of these buttons down for 10-15 seconds. This will take you through to the reset screen.

At this point, your Fire TVdevice should start to reset if things have registered properly. Again, you’ll need to wait a few minutes for the device to reset until you can use it again.

3. Unplug the Fire stick

If your Fire stick has crashed and you can’t access the settings on your device at all, then there is something else that you can do.

Simply unplugging your device from the power source will soft reset your Fire TV stick. Leave it out for a few seconds and then plug it back in. This should be a quick fix to a frozen or crashed Fire stick, which can happen fairly often with older devices.

Although this isn’t a full reset to factory defaults, it’s going to resolve any software problems and fix any performance issues you may have.

Why should I factory reset my Fire stick?

As I’m sure you’re aware, a factory reset of your Fire stick will take it back to its default settings. This means that it’ll go back to the state it arrived in – empty of all your stored content.

There are a few different reasons why you may want to completely reset your Fire TV device. They are;

It’s crashed – Though the newer generations of Fire sticks are less likely to encounter problems, it can still happen. If your device has frozen on a specific screen, then in some cases, only a complete reset can get it working again.

No storage space – One of the bad things about Fire sticks in comparison to other streaming devices like Apple TV is the lack of storage. If you’re running low on storage and you’ve watched everything on your device already, then a reset to default can allow you to start again.

Selling your Fire stick – For those than plan to move to another streaming device, then a factory reset is in order before you do. This is the case from pretty much any different product you own that may store personal data.

Conclusion

There are a couple of different ways that you can reset your Fire TV device, and it really depends on whether you want to take it back to factory settings or not. You may want to reset it to factory defaults if you’re continually having problems with it, as it’s likely caused by something you’ve downloaded.

And as you can see above, it’s very easy to do – more so than some other streaming devices. You can also use pretty much the same process for the Fire TV Cube too. So although Fire TV sticks aren’t perfect, after you spend a while getting used to them, they tend to work pretty well.

How to factory reset the Fire stick without any remote or app?

I had a Firestick 1

Dead no remote.

With a pin lock.

Linked to computer with ADB with usb lead( jocola.com)

With windows but you can download apple or Linux version.

Plugged in hdmi end into the display

It asks to set Firestick to usb debugging.

No mouse or control.

Downloaded CetusPlay app on both an android or iPhone.

Linked android or iphone as hotspot

You are then able to access Firestick system settings

Go network and link network hotspot

Link Wi-fi

With Cetus

You do not have the facility with Cetus.

For the next move

So download Firetv App.

Link firetv app

Go to setting again.

My device/ my fire tv

Reset factory defaults

Then press the reverse and fast forward button at the same time.

Until factory reset comes up.

I think it took 10/ 12 attempts to achieve a factory reset.

Press reset.

You should then have a virgin Firestick as new

Took a bit of working out by trial and error.

This also circumvents pin code lock.

Nothing else worked for myself.

I now have a clean Firestick.

Good Luck

Factory Reset on Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick Explained

fire-tv-stick-reset-factory-defaults-guy

The Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick’s “Factory Reset” option seems to be the source of a lot of confusion. Questions constantly come up on what it does or doesn’t do, and whether it is safe to do on a modded Fire TV running custom ROMs. Some of the confusion stems from the options label, since it most certainly does not reset the Fire TV to the state it was in when it left the factory. Hopefully this post will clear up some of the mystery behind this option.

Performing a Factory Reset will…

  • Remove Apps and App Data
Performing a factory reset will delete all of your installed apps and the data associated with them. This includes both official apps downloaded from Amazon and sideloaded apps. Some games will save your progress to Amazon’s cloud servers, so reinstalling those games after a factory reset will restore your progress.

  • Disable ADB
Performing a factory reset will disable ADB access. This is important because it essentially locks you out of the Fire TV. Some of the first bricked Fire TVs became bricked because they were factory reset with modified system files. Without ADB, there is no way to access those system files. So if you’ve rooted and modded your Fire TV and run into issues, think twice before performing a factory reset since it will disable ADB and close the best venue you have to fixing your issues.

  • Re-Enable Updates
Performing a factory reset will re-enable updates if you’ve disabled them using the “pm disable” method. This is why it is a good idea to also block updates in your router. This is not much of an issue if you are running ClockworkMod custom recovery since a stock update that gets downloaded will not be installed upon rebooting anyway if you have ClockworkMod installed. That said, the first thing you should do after performing a factory reset is to re-disable updates.

  • Force Initial Setup Process
Performing a factory reset will cause you to go through the initial setup process again. This is important to realize because the Fire TV or Fire TV Stick will try to update during the initial setup. Depending on the software version you are running, the device may refuse to complete the initial setup without updating. A Fire TV that got through initial setup fine with updates blocked won’t necessarily do it everytime.

Performing a Factory Reset will NOT…

  • Downgrade or Change Your Software Version
Performing a factory reset will not change the software version currently running on your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick. It doesn’t matter what software version your device originally came with, or what software version is currently installed. It will still have whatever version is currently installed after the reset. This applies to both stock software and custom ROMs. If your Fire TV is running a custom ROM, it will not go back to a stock ROM by factory reseting.

  • Remove Root
Performing a factory reset will not remove root access. However, if you are running a stock software version that has been rooted with towelroot, it may seem like you’ve lost root because the towelroot and SuperSU APKs will be gone. But in reality, root access survives because the SU binary remains in the system. The same goes for any pre-rooted ROM.

  • Remove ClockworkMod or the Kernel Boot Menu
Performing a factory reset will not remove ClockworkMod custom recovery or the Kernel Boot Menu. With either one (or both) installed, it’s safe to do a factory reset. You can do it from either the Fire TV settings menu or from within ClockworkMod.

Fire Stick running slow? Here’s how to speed up your Fire TV Stick

How to speed up your Fire TV Stick

The third-generation Amazon Fire TV Stick, while an improvement on its predecessor, is not a particularly powerful device and complaints about slow speeds are not uncommon. The latest Fire TV Stick added Alexa voice remote as a default feature and ramped up the processor from dual core to quad core. It now uses a Mediatek CPU designed for low-end tablets. Third-generation Firesticks include a basic version and south nags head beach rentals higher-end 4K one, both of which come with Alexa voice remote.

In step with the performance upgrade, Amazon also updated to a newer version of Android and an overhauled the interface with a more modern design. Those changes take a toll on performance, utilizing much of the added power from the new CPU.

The Fire TV Stick doesn’t always struggle to do its job out of the box. But power users–particularly those who have installed and frequently use Kodi–may notice performance degradation over time. Fire TV Stick performance issues can take the form of:

  • Lag
  • App crashes
  • Reduced video quality
  • Lower frame rate
  • Slow motion video
  • Out-of-sync sound
  • Long buffering times

In this article, we’ll discuss a few actions you can take to improve the performance on a Fire TV Stick to get it running like new again. Many of these tweaks will make a minuscule impact on their own, but together they add up to a significant power boost and can speed up your firestick.

Power source

fire tv power adapter
Use the manufacturer’s charging cable and power adapter. You can plug the USB cable into your TV’s USB port or a spare laptop port, but these have a much lower output than a wall socket and will throttle the Fire TV’s performance.

If you opt to use a third-party manufacturer’s cable and adapter, make sure it has the same output as the original: 3rd-gen Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote uses a 5W, 1.0A adapter. Also check to make sure the wall adapter uses the correct voltage for your country.

Restart

Most people keep their Fire TV Sticks plugged in and reset amazon fire stick all the time, even when they aren’t using them. Just like a computer or phone, an occasional restart can help unclog a struggling Fire TV Stick and breathe new life into it. You can either unplug the device and plug it back in again, or restart from Fire OS. For the latter, follow these instructions:

  1. Hold down the Home (house) button
  2. Select Settings > Device
  3. Select Restart

Uninstall unused apps and add-ons

fire tv force stop uninstall clear cache data
This may seem obvious, but apps and add-ons take up space in memory and can run in the background, hogging up resources. Uninstall any apps you don’t use, and remove any Kodi add-ons you don’t use, too. To uninstall Fire TV apps, do the following:

  1. Hold down the Home (house) button.
  2. Select Settings > Applications
  3. Select Manage Installed Applications
  4. Select the app you want to uninstall
  5. Click Uninstall, then Uninstall again to confirm

Note that certain apps come pre-installed on Fire TV and cannot be uninstalled. We’ll show you what to do about those next.

Force stop unused apps

Unused apps that don’t have the uninstall option, or apps that you’d like to keep but just don’t use very much, can be stopped so they no longer run in the background. To do so, follow the exact same steps as you would to uninstall the app as laid out above. This time, instead of selecting Uninstall, choose Force stop. It might not be clear that anything has happened at first, but the app will no longer be weighing down your Fire Stick.

Clear data and cache

In the same menu where you find the Uninstall and Force stop options, you’ll also see Clear data and Clear cache. You can use these on pretty much every coldwell banker commercial grand junction whether you use it or not, but it’s definitely worth doing on apps you don’t use as frequently. Perform these actions in the order they appear: Clear data, then Clear cache. This will also prevent apps you’ve forced stopped from automatically reloading themselves later on.

Disable features that you don’t use

fire tv gamecircle
The Fire TV Stick has quite a bit of bloatware enabled by default. By disabling a few “features” in the settings, you can free up more resources for Kodi and other apps. Turning off these features can also improve your privacy. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Hold down the Home (house) button.

  2. Select Settings > Device
  3. Scroll to the bottom and select Reset to Factory Defaults
  4. Confirm by selecting Reset and wait for the process to finish.

VPN

If you’re experiencing longer than normal buffering times, the problem might not be your hardware, but your internet service provider. ISPs have been known to throttle their customers’ bandwidth for any number of reasons, but many particularly frown upon Kodi users, whether it’s being used for legal activity or not.

To get around this, we recommend connecting your Amazon Fire TV Stick to a VPN. Short for Virtual Private Network, a VPN encrypts all of a device’s internet traffic and routes it through an intermediary server in a location of your choosing. This means your ISP cannot see the contents of your internet traffic nor its source or destination, so it cannot discriminate based upon what you stream and from where.

VPNs come with a wealth of other benefits as well, including more privacy, better security, and the ability to unblock geographically restricted websites and services, including many streaming providers like Netflix, Hulu, HBO Now, and BBC iPlayer.

Our top recommendation is IPVanish, the only reputable VPN provider to offer its app right on the fire TV app store. That means there’s no complicated setup or hacks necessary to get up and running. IPVanish operates hundreds of servers across the globe, and it can automatically select the best server in a particular location so you get a high quality, uninterrupted stream.

BEST VPN FOR KODI:IPVanish is our top choice. Has a large uncongested network of servers and achieves good speeds. Strong security and privacy features make IPVanish a favorite for Kodi and Amazon Fire TV Stick users. Try it risk-free with the 7-day money back guarantee.

Learn how to install a VPN on your Amazon Fire TV Stick here, either with IPVanish or find out how to install ExpressVPN on Firestick.

Optimize Kodi

If your problem is specific to Kodi and doesn’t occur when using other apps, you can try changing a few settings within Kodi itself. There’s a lot of bad advice out there on how to do this that can cause Kodi to crash or even damage your Fire Stick, so proceed with caution.

These settings include Kodi’s cache size, CURL timeout, and read buffer factor. By fine-tuning these, you can cut down buffering times and find reliable streaming sources faster. To make this as fast and easy as possible, we recommend using the Advanced Settings Wizard in the Ares Wizard add-on, which will automatically detect and implement the best configuration for your Fire TV Stick. Learn more about how to do this in our article on how to stop Kodi buffering.

Good Luck

While the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV stick usually run smoothly, sometimes they need a city union bank future kick in the reset button. Here’s how to get your Fire TV back to a factory-fresh state.

Why Reset Your Fire TV?

When it comes to devices with embedded operating systems, sometimes there’s just a glitch in the machine you can’t explain, and Amazon’s Fire TV line is no exception. Maybe a certain button on the remote just doesn’t work right. Maybe it refuses to recognize your Wi-Fi network (not that we’re writing this guide as a result of that happening or anything). Maybe despite entering your Amazon Prime credentials a dozen times in a row, it just won’t phone home and load your vast Prime library.

While we don’t encourage people to take the scorched-Earth approach to fixing their gadgets, unfortunately that’s sometimes the only solution that works. Whatever your ghost-in-the-machine glitch might be, there’s a very good chance that a factory reset is the key to eradicating it.

The price for resetting your Fire TV device back to a showroom-fresh state is that you need to go through and tweak all your settings as if you just plugged the device in for the first time: Wi-Fi credentials, Amazon credentials, any customization you’ve made, and so on. Furthermore, you’ll need to download all content again like apps and stored media.

If you’re not put off by the hassle www walmart money card customer service you’re ready for that new-car smell, let’s reset your Fire TV.

How to Reset Your Fire TV & Fire TV Stick

First, let’s get one thing out of the way. Even though we opened this tutorial with a joke about giving your Fire TV a swift kick in the reset button, we can’t actually suggest that course of action. Do we say this because it would be far too difficult to land a well placed kick into a tiny and recessed reset button hole? Who are we to judge your kicking skills? The real reason is the Fire TV doesn’t have a physical reset button. There are only two ways to reset it: via the System menu and via remote control button combination.

If you want to jump right to the reset option, you can do so by holding down the Back button and the Right button on your Fire TV remote for 10 seconds until the reset screen pops up.

You can also take the longer route, through the System menu, by navigating down the sidebar menu until you reach “Settings”.

There scroll right until you see the “System” menu.

Scroll down through the slide out menu until you see “Reset to Factory Defaults” and select it.

When prompted, enter your PIN code (if you’ve set a parental/security PIN code on your device).

A note regarding the security PIN–if you’re resetting your Fire TV because it won’t connect to your Wi-Fi you’re in a bit of a bind here. You cannot reset your PIN-protected Amazon Fire TV/TV Stick unless the device can phone home and confirm your PIN is correct. This is a ridiculous situation that necessitates you connecting your Fire TV to another network (or using a network cable to plug it directly into your router).

Select “Reset”.

Your Amazon Fire TV will restart, you’ll run through the whole setup routine again as if the device is fresh out of the box, and–fingers crossed–the problem that prompted you to reset the device is gone for good.

With either one (or both) reset amazon fire stick, it’s safe to do a factory reset. You can do it from either the Fire TV settings menu or from within ClockworkMod.
