Stores kick off Black Friday but pandemic woes linger

"I think it is going to be a messy holiday season," said Neil Saunders, managing director at GlobalData Retail. "It will be a bit frustrating for retailers, consumers and the workers. We are going to see long lines. We are going to see messier stores. We are going to see delays as you collect online orders."

For years, Black Friday has been losing importance. Since 2011, stores jumpstarted the holiday shopping season by opening their doors on Thanksgiving to compete with Amazon and other rising online threats. But the shift merely cannibalized Black Friday sales. The shopping bonanza was further diluted when stores started marketing Black Friday sales for the full week and then later for the month.

The pandemic further diminished the importance of the Black Friday event, though some experts still believe it will again be the busiest day of the year. Last year, retailers started to offer the big holiday sales earlier in October in an effort to spread out shopping for safety reasons and to smooth out online shipping peaks. They also got rid of the Thanksgiving Day in-store shopping event and pushed all their discounts online. This year, retailers are embracing a similar strategy, though they are now pushing holiday discounts in stores as well.

Despite all the challenges, experts believe that sales for the Thanksgiving week and overall season will be strong.

U.S. retail sales, excluding auto and gas, from this past Monday through Sunday are expected to increase 10% from last year and 12.2% from the 2019 holiday season, according to Mastercard SpendingPulse, which measures overall retail sales across all payment types including cash and check.

Online sales are forecast to increase 7.1% for that week, a slowdown from the massive 46.4% gain in the same period a year ago when shoppers collectively pivoted to the internet instead of shopping in person, according to Mastercard. For the overall holiday season, online sales should increase 10% from a year ago, compared with a 33% increase last year, according to Adobe Digital Economy Index.

Sales on Black Friday are expected to surge 20% from a year ago as store traffic comes back.

For the November and December period, the National Retail Federation, the nation's largest retail trade group, predicts that sales will increase between 8.5% and 10.5%. Holiday sales increased 8.2% in 2020 when shoppers, locked down during the early part of the pandemic, spent their money on pajamas and home goods.

It made me wonder if it was because I looked Asian- she was helpful and polite to the white women next to me. I was polite and was not being difficult in any way. I'm half white, but was often treated like this in Illinois when I was growing up. She should have been professional and if she had I would have rated the trip as excellent."

This was my second flight of the day after staying in Seattle for 7 hours waiting between my flights. The kid was loud and it seemed like the crew couldn't correct him. He just did as he pleased. I wasn't the only passenger who had a problem with him. And apparently the crew did as well. I paid a lot of money for that flight and he ruined it for me. If they are going to fly children like that, the crew should be able to correct them so the other passengers can have a pleasant flight."

Everybody who flys on Alaska has heard it from the same old Alaska born drunken pilots. How about less drunken bush piloting and get your drunken pilots who've been busted in the last few years to shut up and stop telling everyone that all Alaska pilots are drunks as defense of there drunkeness."

Comically, we taxied on the runway for over an hour, which caused more delays with the plane needing to be de-iced. Figured I'd put all that behind me, but then the flight experienced one of the worst turbulences I've been in. We jerked through the skies many times, and the pilots weren't reassuring. Thankfully we landed okay, but not after being late by multiple hours. Also, JetBlue needs to invest in its planes, esp. its Couch section. I felt like a pretzel with on room to breathe."

The real problem is that delay was caused directly by the airline's incompetence. There were no weather issues, the takeoff spots were available. They simply failed to load snacks. Although there WAS a minor prior delay bc a slightly late plane arrival, we eventually were delayed about an extra hour to supply snacks on a 4-hr flight. Given the ground crew had EXTRA time to load and also considering the tiny set of options offered, this is senseless. Further, b/c they ran out of overhead bins, they offered to GATE check my luggage. This was essentially a lie - they put it with checked bags, unlike the gate checked items I watched others retrieve. The combination of these errors led me to arrive at the car rental desk after closure. This caused me to incur a taxi fare, so spend 30 min or so working out an alternative rental the following day, and then yet ANOTHER cab to the Car Desk to get the car. Cons: "Our flight was delayed 2 hours because the crew was comprised of members from flights delayed by the snowstorm. Even though gate attendants knew they were on their way, attendants refused to let us board until the crew was all on board. Then we had to wait some more....... Also they were lax on pre-boarding announcements, not letting families with children on first. And waiting until each group was fully boarded before announcing the next. Plus the enunciation of various announcements was difficult to understand and/or way too fast. It wasn't funny."

Cons: "Sitting waiting for over 30 min in the heat of the plane and delay in take off from mechanical issues. Flight was smooth though once in the air and great service"

Pros: "Pretty average JetBlue flight. I love the direct TV and wifi"

Cons: "Annoying and time consuming to discover that I couldn’t check in for my flight anywhere besides the counter at JFK because I had two layovers and that JetBlue and Hawaiian had completely different itineraries for me. And then when the flight attendant who checked me in mocked my 2 layover itinerary and said there was a direct flight to HNL from JFK leaving later that morning, she at least could have tried to sell me a seat on that flight, rather than rudely laugh at me “I guess you can only do what you can do” like I was too poor or something. That was annoying. I’m bored of the JetBlue snack selection it’s been the same for years."

Pros: "The Jetblue lounge at JFK.. and the TV was pretty nice"

Cons: "To start, the plane was delayed due to inflight crew getting in late which is fine.. but our departure time never updated and the attendants were transparent but never mentioned a new time. After onboarding we got stuck on the tarmac due to traffic. Flight took off with turbulence to start and finally after 45 mins we got bottles of water. I asked crew if they would come around with more... I was starving and also have the perk of free alcoholic beverages in flight. I was offered neither and we only received chips 1+ hour into the flight. One of our TVs broke and the crew wasn’t helpful in an alternative... Overall worst Jetblue exp I’ve had to date, and I’ve flown with them a lot due to my Mosaic status.."

Cons: "When I arrived at JFK after 14 hours long flight on Emirates, the service counter was understaffed with 1 hour long lines! Un-acceptable! Especially, since all I needed is to re-print my boarding pass, because US TSA would not accept the boarding pass printed by Emirates in India. The kiosk would not recognize my name on reservation! The kiosk did not recognize my recently issued US passport! Bloody annoying! Only able to print the pass after keying reservation code - yet, again not acceptable! The other, earlier attempts should have recognized me and found my reservation! Very upset with quality of service on the ground!"

Pros: "The atmosphere was just right for flying except when I entered the Aircraft I was totally turned off when I encountered a woman and her child and her carry-on pieces was already established in my seat 2A. She did move when I requested but what got me annoyed she had me locked in my seat because all her belongings remained in the passage way making it difficult to make my way to the restroom. IN MY OPINION THIS WAS A SAFETY HAZARD. I had every reason to suspect that she is known to the captain because he came to greet her. ERROLD"

Cons: "NO EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON ENSURING THAT SAFETY IS CARRIED OUT. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL TRAVELLING EXPERIENCES ON A VARIETY OF AIRLINES AND THIS WAS THE WORST FOR SAFETY. UNFORTUNATELY I HAD TO MAKE USE OF THE RESTROOM AND HAD TO BE USING MY ATHELETIC SKILS TO GET BY. THIS REALLY SPOILT MY FLIGHT. MY FLIGHT # WAS 881 TO ST. LUCIA SEAT 2A. SAFETY SHOULD NEVER BE COMPROMISED EVEN IF FRIENDSHIP IS INVOLVED."

Cons: "From the time I got to the gate 90 minutes before flight to the time I got off it was terrable. Delays before boarding with no explanation then the same continued onboarding. First it was waiting for bags. Strange when there's a 2 hour+ delay that all the bags weren't there? Then waiting for paperwork followed by the part they needed was incorrect and a new one was on it's way from the hanger.. Finally departed 1 hour plus later. The plane was an old cattle car. Free TV didn't work right, so at did not recline (no it wasn't an exit row.). Most of the crew and gate attendants were rude and indifferent except for on flight attendant. The entire row of seats didn't recline at all. She was very apologetic and acknowledged it was uncomfortable especially on a 5+hour flight. She did offer us something to eat, blankets earbud. Still my back was killing me upon arrival at Phoenix. JEt Blue. Get your act together. This is unacceptable."

Pros: "People were pleasant and helpful. The updates by text were very helpful."

Cons: "The plane was a couple of hours late. I also got tired of hearing the same message about why the plane was late, that it had to be cleaned and needed a security check before we could board, over and over and over while we waited. Every 10 minutes just started to make me angry. We didn't need that many apologies and thanks for our patience."

Pros: "Because the flight was only about 2/3 full, I was able to move to an empty window seat with an empty aisle seat next to it. Nice to be able to stretch my long legs out. Nice! Snacks were great too!!"

Cons: "The only thing I didn't like, was actually making it on to the flight. When I got to NYC, I was able to quickly pick up my bags and get through customs, and over to the next terminal (5) where Jet Blue is located. However, the check in terminals were NOT working and I had to stand in a huge line to recheck my bag and get my boarding pass. I would definitely missed my flight, but I managed (by calling out) to one of the Jet Blue ticket agents at the counter...she actually came to me, I told her my situations, and she let me come to the front of the line. I got my boarding pass, RAN to the gate, and just made my flight in the nick of time. Stressful! But, I was so glad for that kind Jet Blue woman who helped me out. I had been traveling nearly 24 hours and couldn't bear the thought of sitting in JFK for at least another 8 hours before the next available flight."

Cons: "The flight attendant was sitting next to me and wouldn’t shut up. So annoying!!!!"

Cons: "The flight took off two hours late. We were suppose to arrive at our destination at twenty minutes after midnight, and instead did not arrive until 2:30 a.m. You felt like the pilot got on the plane when you did with no planning involved on how to get to Austin. I later learned that Jet Blue has the worst on time record of all the airlines. And you got nothing to compensate you for the inconvenience. I am really disappointed in Kayak for not making it known on our ticket that we were flying from New York to Austin on Jet Blue. When buying my tickets on Kayak, it appeared on my itinerary that all my flights were on Iceland Air. It was very confusing to me, as I don't travel very frequently. And airport staff is not very helpful when you are in this situation. Due to all the confusion, I will probably use another airline search tool for my next trip to see if I can lessen the confusion."

Pros: "Seating is spacious, food was okay, entertainment was sufficient but not the best. Overall I was impressed with Jet Blue and will most likely fly with them again in future."

Cons: "Didn't like a huge argument taking place between one family which held the flight up by at least 30 minutes. The crew were very patient with this family, but the passengers were not. I think the family should have been removed and asked to take another flight so that my flight could leave on time. It made everyone very nervous because we didn't know to what extent this conflict would escalate, so we had to sit listening to 3 or 4 members of the family arguing and constantly removing passports from luggage and going back and forth in and out of the plane. One member of this family actually entered the cockpit, which unnerved me because of the risks with terrorists these days. The family appeared to be of muslim descent."

Cons: "I was delayed half a dozen times, only to be canceled. Rescheduled on a flight that was scheduled to depart two hours before the original flight. Rescheduled after an hour hold. That flight was delayed the following day. Was diverted to Baltimore only to find out only some of us on our flight are getting out by a rude agent. Then no information at all. Had to run to catch an amtrak. Later found out if I stayed I would have stayed another 13 hours in Baltimore. Missed work and had no one home to take care of my family. Oh, and travel insurance will not cover anything. The plane itself was falling apart. Seat was broken and dirty. Everyones lights were broken and it smelled."

Pros: "Literally the worst flight I’ve ever been on in my life."

Cons: "We were seated behind a woman who brought a sick cat into the flight. The stench of cat feces was overwhelming. When we addressed it with the staff, they were incredibly rude. I also shared that I had a very significant cat allergy. The staff continued to be incredibly rude, and eventually offered a single seat in the back, which would not accommodate the two of us. The woman next to us also expressed her extreme discomfort and was condescended and disrespected, as well. Shocking, miserable experience."

Pros: "The entertament options from new releases to tv shows was good .."

Cons: "The staff was disorganized and seemed a bit frantic at one point they announce a need for a doctor on board .. we where never told that the passanger was allright .. There was a chilld who sat behind me that kick my chair the entire time and stuck his hands in between which where sticky in between the seat over and over again grabbing me he was loud and sick with what seem to be a cold and kept touching me though the seat would not listen to the adult that was with him i understand that he is a child but this went on the entire flight which was over five hours my back is still not ok .. snacks where serve late into the filght once.. staff was not friendly..."

Cons: "Direct TV didn't work -- provided only one station, with a constant scroll across the bottom of the screen promoting the imminent start of movies that we're impossible to access. And even this one station would disappear from time to time. None of the seat-mounted controls worked -- including channel, volume, brightness, and music. And you couldn't even turn the damned thing off so it glowed in your face all through the overnight flight. In short, a terribly boring 6.5 hours aloft in terribly uncomfortable seats."

Pros: "We boarded right on time and the boarding process was smooth."

Cons: "Our flight was delayed three hours because of air conditioning malfunctioning on the plane. We sat on the tarmac for almost two and a half hours, and it must have been around 85 degrees on the plane. There was a lot of miscommunication about whether we would be switching aircraft. They finally told us to deplane because we were probably going to switch planes. After 15 minutes in the terminal, we reboarded the same plane. Got to LA 3 hours late so had to deal with horrible rush hour traffic, which we had hoped to avoid had we taken off on time."

Pros: "The convenience of landing and being so close to home. Only wished there were more flights avail with better times."

Cons: "1) The time of this flight is a bit much. I understand that it is close to my home but I know if Jet Blue adds 1 or 2 more flights, they would totally get booked up. The leaving JFK at almost midnight and then the time difference is horrible. 2)This flight had a child that got sick and we were delayed about 40-45 mins. Totally worth it but it made for an even harder time getting in at almost 630am PR time. 3) The turbulence was horrible. We were warned but so many customers were getting sick. Its was unpleasant to say the least."

Cons: "Flight was delayed over 5 hrs. Not the airline's fault but waited in the help line for over an hr before the agent told me there was no earlier flight I could be placed on - she was incorrect. Pointed out that there was another flight that had also been delayed and therefore hadn't left yet - she agreed, put me on standby. At the gate, the boarding crew did not know what they were doing. The plane was 20% empty but crew made situation very hectic by giving standby passengers seats, taking them away, and then realizing there was actually enough room on the plane. Crew was friendly but incompetent in terms of problem solving."

Cons: "TSA held me up with a 30 minute bag check so I arrived for an 11:30 AM flight at 11:16 AM. I was told that because I was a minute late they wouldn't let me on even though the plane was still in the runway and connected to the terminal. I asked to speak to a supervisor and the agent disappeared for 10 minutes while the plane took off. I then went to go speak to a customer service agent who wouldn't even look at me while I spoke. She actually started listening to and talking with another agent while I was talking to her. Then when I was finished, she started arguing with me until another agent said "he's not worth it." JetBlue just lost my business."

Pros: "The crew was helpful."

Cons: "Flight was over two hours late. No excuse was given. Original Departure time was 9:30pm. Was receiving alerts beginning from that morning notifying of delays which continued as I waited at the airport that night. This seems to happen frequently and nothing is ever done to make it up to travelers. On the plane, the audio for the tv had static so you couldn't actually hear anything. It doesn't seem like you can turn the tvs off, which is annoying as they emit light, so if you want to sleep you have to deal with the light from your tv."

Pros: "We got to our final destination."

Cons: "We needed to wait for "just a few minutes." The Captain said. Then, no other communication at all and we left over an hour late for a 45-minute flight, no explanation. I hate when they leave you in the dark and aren't upfront. The connection from Emirates to JetBlue we had was almost impossible. Two healthy adults, arriving on time in NYC with two hours to make a connection. With walking as fast as possible and not even going to the bathroom, we barely made the flight. Customs. Change terminals. Go through security again. ridiculous."

Pros: "There was a delay on my flight from Dubai to New York... as a result I missed my flight to Rochester. Now I am being told to rebook the flight and pay full price. I am getting the short end of the stick here. This is totally rip off"

Pros: "The people who worked there were professional. The other passengers were nice."

Cons: "The seats, even the upgraded ones, didn't recline sufficiently to let my head drop back. This meant that for a period of four plus hours, I was stuck in an incredibly uncomfortable sitting position -- tilted slightly forward, via the placement of my head. And it also meant that the only way to try to sleep was by pitching forward over the tray, hunched forward in a way that didn't allow me to breathe fully. I tried slouching down, and it didn't help. The way that the lumbar was positioned also pushed me forward. The pillows were too small to lift my head much off the tray. Perhaps it's my height and weight. If I was shorter or taller or thinner, my options might have increased. Regardless, if the airlines are going to squish us together, they might consider how to give us some flexibility with regards to placement of back rests, like we have in cars -- adjustment of lumbar curve."

This was greatly appreciated, especially after 5 days of drinking and partying. My buddies and I spent two and a half days in Las Vegas for a bachelor party followed by two days in the LA area for a wedding (yes we did it Hangover style) :) Thank you Delta!"

Signed up for sky miles previously based on good experiences, but this was one lane thing after another. Advice? Don't act like you're doing me a favor when asking people to check bags cause then it's "free"."

Cons: "This was an almost 6 hour long flight, LAX to OGG. The aircraft was older and for a 6 hour flight, they really should use a bigger and newer aircraft. The entertainment systems on the back of the seat worked sporadically and the PA system was too loud and every time the PA system was used while we had our headsets on, it was excruciating We had no warning in order to remove our headsets before it blasted into our ears. We were amazed that after paying a considerable sum for our tickets and being in the air for 6 hours, there was limited meal service and we were required to purchase a sandwich in order to eat. I fly Delta frequently and this was by far the worse flight I can remember."

Pros: "the upgraded seats with the new headrests were great. the pilots & crew did a great job despite the more-than-average turbulence."

Cons: "lack of any entertainment options whatsoever (not necessary but always a nice-to-have). More importantly, the fact that I checked-in with seat 14 and ended-up, seemingly randomly, in seat 28 (the back of the plane) when I had SPECIFICALLY selected a seat in the FRONT section of the plane. That was particularly annoying, especially since the optics of the situation were such that I used miles to purchase the flight and got "screwed-over" with respect to my seat selection as if my ticket held less weight than other passengers..."

I'm convinced that the routine of the job blinds both the TSA and airline employees to this fact. Clear and concise instructions would be great, regulars will continue to ignore you. I tried to take things in stride (first world problems?) but it is a bummer to pay extra for the first class treatment and then to not have that great experience, especially on back to back 5ish hour flights."

Cons: "I showed up 2 hrs before the flight. Was told the flight from Toronto to Minn was delayed 30 minutes and go stand in line to speak to an agent. There were approx 20 in line yet only 2 gate agents at 4:30pm. One of the gate agents kept helping the Premium members and bypassing the standard line. The other agent was in a coma as his average person at counter was 10 min. Finally get to counter and they hand me a boarding pass going via Salt Lake in 30 minutes. But has a 3 hrs layover in SL. I then get to US Custom check for US residents re-entering and the line was a good 30 minute wait. You would think the Delta folks would have accounted for that line. I had to ask everyone in front of them if I could skip in front as the plane was now departing in 10 min. I had to then run on a bum knee and was the last to board. The agent at gate was saying we were calling your name but did they think I could have been stuck in customs? On that short of a window they should have walked me through Customs to make sure I got on a flight they wanted me to take versus my scheduled flight."

Cons: "The website was really annoying - it wouldn't let me check in or pay for my baggage. Then when I called it took over an hour for someone to answer the phone. I was told if a passenger did not fly both ends of a round trip flight, we would need to pay a $50 cancellation fee for the privilege of not using the ticket we had already paid for. This is also the first airline I have flown that charges for carry ons and also charges for seat assignments during online checkin! That's right, I could have paid an extra $6 to select a middle seat in the back of the airplane! Except the online checkin system kept crashing so I never checked in online anyways. And finally the food options were horrible, the worst I have ever seen. I was really hungry, so I bought one of their snack packs (after the person at the counter assured me there would be sandwiches), and the snack pack was disgusting, even by airplane food standards. I'd prefer flying Spirit Air - at least they are up front about nickel-and-diming their customers. I'll do my best to avoid flying sun country again."

Cons: "Sun Country website was down so I couldn’t check in. I received an error message. When I got to the airport the computers were down so the line was very long. They continued checking people’s bags and when we got to security several peopke missed the 1pm flight Lax to Minneapolis flight. When I tried to rebook the Sun country air employees scolded me and others for coming to the airport late. Long story short I bought and American airlines flight home I’ll never fly with them again... I’ll spread the word amongst my community."

Pros: "I had a seat toward the front, so I boarded early-ish, which went smoothly."

Cons: "Seating was incredibly uncomfortable. The bottom cushion was worn down, so my butt was sore after just a three hour flight. Also, my neck and back were in pain after getting off the flight. I am in my 20's and don't really get sore neck or back, but the seats were just that bad. However, I did have JUST enough leg room even though I am 6'4". I'll probably avoid this airline in the future just for the horrid seats alone."

Cons: "On the trip from Los Angeles to Mineapolis, I have my carry on free checked in. I forgot to take my camera out of my carry on when I left it on boarding. When I go back from my seat to take it the personnel did not allow me and instead of telling me the reason with easy English (I still cannot understand spoken English well), he talked to another personnel who might be at the place where the carry on's were. I want to know why I cannot take the camera and if the personnel's behavior is appropriate"

Pros: "In this age of Making America Great Again...people need to learn to mind their own business and just...stop. Never have I been stared down by a flight crew of white folks more in my entire life. It's a little disappointing, as this was a flight back to my home town after years of being away..and Sun Country is based there. You can feel and see the aggressive body language coming at you, so I just ignore till then point It's chrystal clear, then allm of a sudden...the body language becomes self consciousness when they realize...i am here for flight, whatever other agenda you may have has nothing to do with me and won't get my attention. You need more people of color working you flights in and out of the Midwest. There's a certain sensitivity that comes with that. Disappointed, but not surprised."

Cons: "I wasn't even offered food or a drink when the carts rolled. It was so obviously, the old white lady sittikng next to me shot the stewardess a negative glance and all of a sudden it...would you like something to drink..as an after thought. I politely declined and looked out the window and played on my Kindle the entire flight."

Pros: "This flight was inexpensive and the layover was very easy. Didn't have to pay to carry on luggage like other cheap options."

Cons: "No entertainment except movies to rent through flight attendant. Seats were uncomfortable. Airline is in the worst terminals with terrible food options."

Cons: "We were an hour late taking off because the pilot waited for a late passenger causing us to miss the take off firm which I feel was unfair to the entire plane who all boarded on time."

Cons: "The seats were very uncomfortable and we were told the exit row seats reclined but they did not so we sat straight up on an overnight flight."

Cons: "When I checked in prior to flight, the staff person asked me if I wanted an exit seat. I asked if it is roomier than Sun Country's regular seating since I feel their regular seats are very roomy. She said yes and that they are very comforable. When I got to my seat, I found out that they do not recline. DO NOT FN RECLINE. The lady forgot to tell me that. With lower back pain, I was extremely uncomfortable, in fact I could ot sit still. Horrible flight. THe stewardess could not help me, they said flight was full. I told them of my back pain, they didnt care, nothing we can do. THen I asked for a pillow and blanket so I can support my head. I was told there was a fee for a pillow and blanket.??????? I said ok since I was looking for relief, and comfort. She came back saying she was sold out. WTF"

Pros: "All the sandwiches they had had meat. They should have at least something besides cheese and crackers or junk food that is a vegetarian meal on flights traveling around lunch and dinner time!"

Cons: "I've flown twice with Sun Counrey and both times I was late in arriving by Two hours! That's a lot!"

Cons: "I did not like that I flew over 6 hours to California with no entertainment . None of their planes have wifi and no tvs. The chairs were also uncomfortable ."

Pros: "Always love Sun Country! Much better prices then most, service is always great (Midwest nice ;) and Terminal 2 is effortless to get through! Also got the NICEST lady on the phone when calling with questions prior to leaving, you guys are all around wonderful!"

Cons: "This flight was nothing like other sun country flights I have been on. The plane was old with uncomfortable seating and did not even have tray tables. I was seated next to the window in the emergency exit row and for the entire flight, the wall was freezing from poor insulation. I could even feel some wind coming out. Wasn't possible to sleep, and this was an overnight flight, not too happy."

Cons: "Sun Country has confusing regulations about what is and is not oversize baggage."

Pros: "The friendly staff of Sun Country brought me a wheelchair both in LAX and Minneapolis. These people were warm and friendly. It may be a normal part of their job but it felt like they were really invested in my well being. My flight with Delta earlier in the year did not at all meet these expectations."

Cons: "Everything was awful about this travel experience. I was delayed all day and my flight from MSP to JFK took almost 8 hours. They delays were due to weather which I can understand but there was absolutely no communication from the airline and had everyone including myself extremely frustrated. We landed in Stewart, NY with no warning or information. Was a nightmare."

Pros: "The paid food is great and feels reasonably priced. Thur have a pretty good and hot cheeseburger (no lettuce or tomatoes) for $5 - a real bargain considering a pre-made week old sandwich in the airport is at least $10."

Cons: "There were some delays because of snow, but what did I expect from an airline based in Minneapolis-St. Paul. They also seemed to hold my connecting flight for a little bit so I could make the connection."

Cons: "Our departure was very disorganized. I was told that I'd be able to board early if I checked my carry on. Not the case."

Pros: "I changed my flight because of an emergency to the next day with no charge because of a "one time courtesy." So amazing and so thankful for that."

I understand the stress that can have, but we kept being told different things, the people that waited patiently ended up getting the short end and sat around all day. When we were told we would know more in 5 minutes, that took 25, when we were told we would know more and to keep sitting there in the small area we would know more in about 20 minutes, it too 45."

I GOT TO THE COUNTER TO CHECK IN TO MY FLIGHT THE PERSON BEHIND THE COUNTER IS TELLING ME THAT YOU CANT CHECK IN YOU ARE LATE FOR YOUR FLIGHT. I TOLD THEM I CALLED LAST NIGHT TO CHOOSE MY SEAT I HAD CHECK IN AND THAY ARE TELLING ME NO YOU DID NOT CHECK IN. I TOLD THEM I HAVE ONE HOUR BEFORE MY FLIGHT HOW AM I LATE!! I TALKED TO THE MANAGER AND SHE IS TELLING ME THE FLIGHT IS LEAVING 10 MINUTES EARLY. I TOLD THEM NO ONE INFORMED ME THAT THE FLIGHT IS LEAVING EARLY. THEY DIDN'T LET ME GET ON MY FLIGHT. I WAS AT THE AIRPORT ONE HOUR BEFORE MY FLIGHT. I HAD TO TAKE ANOTHER FLIGHT TO SAN FRANCISCO THAN PAY $300 FOR A FLIGHT BACK TO LOS ANGELES. I REPORT THIS AIRLINE TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU BECAUSE THAT IS A JOKE I GOT TO THE AIRPORT 1 HOUR BEFORE MY FLIGHT AND I CANT GET ON."

Cons: "On return flight, gates changed without any announcement. About 1/2 hour before return flight boarded they announced there would be no bathrooms on flight available. This would have been prohibitive for me flying that flight. Situation was rectified and they got two bathrooms working but it caused a great deal of undue stress. Is flying without facilities even legal?"

Pros: "Everything was expeditious, staff was courteous and the flight went smooth. Thanks Sun Country Air!"

Cons: "Sharing a single gate with 3 airlines leaving at the same time is I'm sure not what anyone wants. Departing time was supposed to be at 1210, instead we took a bus to I think Mexico to board the plane then we taxied the plane all the way back to LAX and took off at 218 (well documented time). I was late for work so I was let go, my wife left me and took our 4 sort of intelligent kids with her. I'm just glad I could write this review before my phone services are shut down do to lack of funds. At the end of the day things could have been worse but I'll survive. "Just keep swimming"-Dory"

He is 6 feet 8 inches tall, luckily there was an open exit aisle seat an they upgraded him without charge...otherwise would have been a horrible fathers day for all"

Cons: "This covers two flights - Neither left on time, neither got to the gate on time. Once the bags took 30 minutes to get to the carousel, the other time staff gave wrong carousel and several passengers sat waiting. Rude flight attendants have no desire to actually serve on-board. The entire plane smells like the McDonald's dumpster that they fish their "Cheeseburgers" out of. Nothing good to say about the entire experience and I will never fly them again. Word of advice to all flight attendants working for Sun Country: Fly somewhere as a PASSENGER on Delta and see how it's done. Take notes.....lots of them."

Pros: "Sun Country has a system which promotes smooth boarding. First to board are for those with special needs requiring more time (families with kids, etc.), then the first class passengers, then those without carry-on, or who are willing to leave their carry-on as gate check, then for the first 10 rows, and then the back rows, and then everyone else. This seems to work fairly well since it minimizes jams associated with front row seating first, as well as seating those who have large carry-ons."

Cons: "The only thing is that they should emphasize more that those who board first because they do not have carry-on, but just personal bags, should place those personal bags under the seat rather than use that to board first and then take up valuable space in the overhead compartment. I saw people board first claiming only personal bags, and then they would deposit their bags towards the front in overhead compartments, or they would just put their bags sideways in the overhead--taking up twice as much space as carryon bags going in lengthwise."

I think the flight attendant and first class was terrific, but whoever had to work in coach where I say didn’t seem happy about it, extremely mediocre service, not friendly, just putting 1 foot in front of the other. Just seemed “over it.”

Very pleasant.

Check-in was a nightmare. At least half the self-serve kiosks were out of printer paper so were out of service. It was chaos. No one was directing traffic, so you had to hope you were in the right line. We finally got to a kiosk and checked in, and printed one bag tag for checked baggage. We were in line to drop off the checked bag, and the lady working that station just walked away and didn’t come back. After we waited a bit, another person in line went to ask at the nearby counter if the bag check person was coming back, and she wasn’t, so we had to find a new line and wait all over again. Once we got our bag dropped off and our tickets, the rest was easy. The security line went quickly, and the terminal was clean and nice. Our flight was great and the flight crew was excellent. I think if someone had kept up with the kiosk printers, a lot of the check-in headaches and stress would have been solved.

It was a smooth, uneventful ride. The staff was very friendly. The overhead compartments were a little small for my hiking style backpack, but I made it work.

Now we got stuck in Charlotte for the night. Nothing like being late for your Grandma’s funeral. Pathetic AA! PATHETIC!"

We had a bag we brought on three previous legs of our total travel which was considered by all of the other attendants as a personal item. This particular attendant very rudely informed us it was not, and we needed to check it. When we tried to explain the previous flights she responded with “I just explained this to the other passengers...it’s not allowed.” We didn’t argue, and gave the bag to the personnel in attendance, but the tone for the duration of the flight continued."

Pros: "I booked a codeshare ticket through Alaska Airlines reward program. I was worried I'd be shafted when it came to seats. Not so. I had the row to myself on both flights and just 2 rows shy of first class! Very impressed."

Cons: "Watched a very weird interaction between Muslim (with a hajib) women with a kiddo and desk crew. She wanted to sit next to her child on the flight and needed to switch seats to be able to. Woman was very gracious and understanding that she was asking for an accommodation. Ends up her flight to Philly had been moved to a different gate after they had found a volunteer to switch seats. Volunteer was totally unfazed but Desk crew made it seem as tho the Muslim mom was at fault for the time and trouble they had had to go through to accommodate her. She apologized profusely and was very appreciative for the trouble evernote had gone to for her. . As she walked away the crew looked at each other and shook their heads. Pretty crummy way to treat customers!"

Terminal 1 – Lindbergh Terminal, 4300 Glumack Drive

Once a major gateway airport for destinations in Asia, Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport is now Delta Air Lines’ second busiest hub (after Atlanta) and a hub for hometown Sun Country Airlines. The airport is about 10 miles south of downtown Minneapolis and 12 miles southwest from downtown St. Paul.

TERMINAL LAYOUT

The passenger complex at Minneapolis-St. Paul airport is made up of two terminals on different sides of the airfield that are about a mile apart from each other. Terminal 1, the Lindbergh Terminal has seven concourses labeled A-G. Terminal 2, the Humphrey Terminal has the H concourse.

Airlines in Terminal 1, the Lindbergh Terminal, are: Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air France, Alaska, American, Boutique Air, Delta, Denver Air Connection, KLM Royal Dutch, Spirit and United.

Airlines in Terminal 2, the Humphrey Terminal, are: Allegiant, Condor, Frontier, Icelandair, JetBlue, Southwest and Sun Country.

Metro Blue Line trains travel between the two terminals about every 10-20 minutes, depending on time of day. The ride between the terminals is free but passengers must leave the TSA secure area to reach the train stops, which are at the ground level. Beyond the airport, passengers pay fare to continue on the Blue Line north to downtown Minneapolis and south to the Mall of America. Metro Transit bus Route 54 travels to downtown St. Paul.

Other ground transportation options leaving the airport include taxis, app-based ride services, van and shuttle services, intercity buses and car rental companies. Information about the options and where to find them in the airport is here.

To/From Tucson Connections

Delta Air Lines flights arrive and depart MSP Terminal 1 at the A, B, C, D, F and G gates. Connecting passengers can use walkways, moving walkways and trams to reach all other Delta gates without leasing the TSA secure area.

Sun Country Airlines flights arrive and depart MSP Terminal 2 using the H gates. Connections to other Sun Country flights can be made without leaving the TSA secure area.

World races to contain new COVID threat, the omicron variant

BRUSSELS -- Nearly two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, the world raced Friday to contain a new coronavirus variant potentially more dangerous than the one that has fueled relentless waves of infection on nearly every continent.

A World Health Organization panel named the variant “omicron” and classified it as a highly transmissible virus of concern, the same category that includes the predominant delta variant, which is still a scourge driving higher cases of sickness and death in Europe and parts of the United States.

“It seems to spread rapidly,” U.S. President Joe Biden said of the new variant, only a day after celebrating the resumption of Thanksgiving gatherings for millions of American families and the sense that normal life was coming back at least for the vaccinated. In announcing new travel restrictions, he told reporters, “I’ve decided that we’re going to be cautious.”

Omicron's actual risks are not understood. But early evidence suggests it carries an increased risk of reinfection compared with other highly transmissible variants, the WHO said. That means people who contracted COVID-19 and recovered could be subject to catching it again. It could take weeks to know if current vaccines are less effective against it.

In response to the variant's discovery in southern Africa, the United States, Canada, Russia and a host of other countries joined the European Union in restricting travel for visitors from that region, where the variant brought on a fresh surge of infections.

The White House said the U.S. will restrict travel from South Africa and seven other countries in the region beginning Monday. Biden issued a declaration later Friday making the travel prohibition official, with exceptions for U.S. citizens and permanent residents and for several other categories, including spouses and other close family.

Medical experts, including the WHO, warned against any overreaction before the variant was thoroughly studied. But a jittery world feared the worst after the tenacious virus triggered a pandemic that has killed more than 5 million people around the globe.

“We must move quickly and at the earliest possible moment,” British Health Secretary Sajid Javid told lawmakers.

Omicron has now been seen in travelers to Belgium, Hong Kong and Israel, as well as in southern Africa.

There was no immediate indication whether the variant causes more severe disease. As with other variants, some infected people display no symptoms, South African experts said. The WHO panel drew from the Greek alphabet in naming the variant omicron, as it has done with earlier, major variants of the virus.

Even though some of the genetic changes appear worrisome, it was unclear how much of a public health threat it posed. Some previous variants, like the beta variant, initially concerned scientists but did not spread very far.

Fears of more pandemic-induced economic turmoil caused stocks to tumble in Asia, Europe and the United States. The Dow Jones Industrial Average briefly dropped more than 1,000 points. The S&P 500 index closed down 2.3%, its worst day since February. The price of oil plunged about 13%.

“The last thing we need is to bring in a new variant that will cause even more problems,” German Health Minister Jens Spahn said. Members of the 27-nation EU have experienced a massive spike in cases recently.

Britain, EU countries and some others introduced their travel restrictions Friday, some within hours of learning of the variant. Asked why the U.S. was waiting until Monday, Biden said only: "Because that was the recommendation coming from my medical team.’’

The White House said government agencies needed the time to work with airlines and put the travel limits into effect.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said flights will have to “be suspended until we have a clear understanding about the danger posed by this new variant, and travelers returning from this region should respect strict quarantine rules.”

She warned that “mutations could lead to the emergence and spread of even more concerning variants of the virus that could spread worldwide within a few months."

“It’s a suspicious variant," said Frank Vandenbroucke, health minister in Belgium, which became the first European Union country to announce a case of the variant. “We don’t know if it’s a very dangerous variant.”

Omicron has yet to be detected in the United States, said Dr. Anthony Fauci, the U.S. government's top infectious disease expert. Although it may be more transmissible and resistant to vaccines than other variants, "we don’t know that for sure right now,” he told CNN.

Speaking to reporters outside a bookstore on Nantucket Island, where he was spending the holiday weekend, Biden said the new variant was "a great concern” that “should make clearer than ever why this pandemic will not end until we have global vaccinations."

He called anew for unvaccinated Americans to get their widely available doses and for governments to waive intellectual property protections for COVID-19 vaccines so they can be more rapidly manufactured around the world.

Israel, one of the world's most vaccinated countries, announced Friday that it also detected its first case of the new variant in a traveler who returned from Malawi. The traveler and two other suspected cases were placed in isolation. Israel said all three were vaccinated, but officials were looking into the travelers' exact vaccination status.

After a 10-hour overnight trip, passengers aboard KLM Flight 598 from Capetown, South Africa, to Amsterdam were held on the edge of the runway Friday morning at Schiphol airport for four hours pending special testing. Passengers aboard a flight from Johannesburg were also isolated and tested.

“It’s ridiculous. If we didn’t catch the dreaded bug before, we're catching it now,” said passenger Francesca de’ Medici, a Rome-based art consultant who was on the flight.

Some experts said the variant's emergence illustrated how rich countries’ hoarding of vaccines threatens to prolong the pandemic.

Fewer than 6% of people in Africa have been fully immunized against COVID-19, and millions of health workers and vulnerable populations have yet to receive a single dose. Those conditions can speed up spread of the virus, offering more opportunities for it to evolve into a dangerous variant.

“This is one of the consequences of the inequity in vaccine rollouts and why the grabbing of surplus vaccines by richer countries will inevitably rebound on us all at some point,” said Michael Head, a senior research fellow in global health at Britain’s University of Southampton. He urged Group of 20 leaders "to go beyond vague promises and actually deliver on their commitments to share doses.”

The new variant added to investor anxiety that months of progress containing COVID-19 could be reversed.

“Investors are likely to shoot first and ask questions later until more is known,” said Jeffrey Halley of foreign exchange broker Oanda.

The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention discouraged any travel bans on countries that reported the new variant. It said past experience shows that such travel bans have “not yielded a meaningful outcome.”

The U.S. restrictions will apply to visitors from South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, and Malawi. The White House suggested the restrictions will mirror an earlier pandemic policy that banned entry of any foreigners who had traveled over the previous two weeks in the designated regions.

The U.K. banned flights from South Africa and five other southern African countries and announced that anyone who had recently arrived from those countries would be asked to take a coronavirus test.

Canada banned the entry of all foreigners who have traveled to southern Africa in the last two weeks.

The Japanese government announced that Japanese nationals traveling from Eswatini, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa and Lesotho will have to quarantine at government-dedicated accommodations for 10 days and take three COVID-19 tests during that time. Japan has not yet opened up to foreign nationals. Russia announced travel restrictions effective Sunday.

"Passengers who assault, intimidate or threaten violence against flight crews and flight attendants do more than harm those employees; they prevent the performance of critical duties that help ensure safe air travel," Garland said in a Justice Department statement.
The FAA has received 5,338 reports of unruly passengers, about three-quarters involving the federal transportation mask mandate, and has opened more than 1,000 investigations.
It has publicly disclosed more than $1.6 million in fines against passengers accused of violence or misbehavior, including more than $161,000 against eight passengers announced this week.
Overall the number of domestic flights planned from last weekend to just after New Year's Day is down 12% compared with the same period in 2019, according to data from Cirium, an airline data tracking service.

The real problem is that delay was caused directly by the airline's incompetence. There were no weather issues, the takeoff spots were available. They simply failed to load snacks. Although there WAS a minor prior delay bc a slightly late plane arrival, we eventually were delayed about an extra hour to supply snacks on a 4-hr flight. Given the ground crew had EXTRA time to load and also considering the tiny set of options offered, this is senseless. Further, b/c they ran out of overhead bins, they offered to GATE check my luggage. This was essentially a lie - they put it with checked bags, unlike the gate checked items I watched others retrieve. The combination of these errors led me to arrive at the car rental desk after closure. This caused me to incur a taxi fare, so spend 30 min or so working out an alternative rental the following day, and then yet ANOTHER cab to the Car Desk to get the car. This is the only time in my hundred or so car rentals anything like this has happened. I will certainly think twice (or more) before booking Jet Blue again."

Pros: "Captain ended up being a good pilot with a very smooth landing,"

Cons: "Our flight was delayed 2 hours because the crew was comprised of members from flights delayed by the snowstorm. Even though gate attendants knew they were on their way, attendants refused to let us board until the crew was all on board. Then we had to wait some more. Also they were lax on pre-boarding announcements, not letting families with children on first. And waiting until each group was fully boarded before announcing the next. Plus the enunciation of various announcements was difficult to understand and/or way too fast. It wasn't funny."

Cons: "Sitting waiting for over 30 min in the heat of the plane and delay in take off from mechanical issues. Flight was smooth though once in the air and great service"

Cons: "Annoying and time consuming to discover that I couldn’t check in for my flight anywhere besides the counter at JFK because I had two layovers and that JetBlue and Hawaiian had completely different itineraries for me. And then when the flight attendant who checked me in mocked my 2 layover itinerary and said there was a direct flight to HNL from JFK leaving later that morning, she at least could have tried to sell me a seat on that flight, rather than rudely laugh at me “I guess you can only do what you can do” like I was too poor or something. That was annoying. I’m bored of the JetBlue snack selection it’s been the same for years."

Pros: "The Jetblue lounge at JFK. and the TV was pretty nice"

Cons: "To start, the plane was delayed due to inflight crew getting in late which is fine. but our departure time never updated and the attendants were transparent but never mentioned a new time. After onboarding we got stuck on the tarmac due to traffic. Flight took off with turbulence to start and finally after 45 mins we got bottles of water. I asked crew if they would come around with more. I was starving and also have the perk of free alcoholic beverages in flight. I was offered neither and we only received chips 1+ hour into the flight. One of our TVs broke and the crew wasn’t helpful in an alternative. Overall worst Jetblue exp I’ve had to date, and I’ve flown with them a lot due to my Mosaic status."

Cons: "When I arrived at JFK after 14 hours long flight on Emirates, the service counter was understaffed with 1 hour long lines! Un-acceptable! Especially, since all I needed is to re-print my boarding pass, because US TSA would not accept the boarding pass printed by Emirates in India. The kiosk would not recognize my name on reservation! The kiosk did not recognize my recently issued US passport! Bloody annoying! Only able to print the pass after keying reservation code - yet, again not acceptable! The other, earlier attempts should have recognized me and found my reservation! Very upset with quality of service on the ground!"

Pros: "The atmosphere was just right for flying except when I entered the Aircraft I was totally turned off when I encountered a woman and her child and her carry-on pieces was already established in my seat 2A. She did move when I requested but what got me annoyed she had me locked in my seat because all her belongings remained in the passage way making it difficult to make my way to the restroom. IN MY OPINION THIS WAS A SAFETY HAZARD. I had every reason to suspect that she is known to the captain because he came to greet her. ERROLD"

UNFORTUNATELY I HAD TO MAKE USE OF THE RESTROOM AND HAD TO BE USING MY ATHELETIC SKILS TO GET BY. THIS REALLY SPOILT MY FLIGHT. MY FLIGHT # WAS 881 TO ST. LUCIA SEAT 2A. SAFETY SHOULD NEVER BE COMPROMISED EVEN IF FRIENDSHIP IS INVOLVED."

Cons: "From the time I got to the gate 90 minutes before flight to the time I got off it was terrable. Delays before boarding with no explanation then the same continued onboarding. First it was waiting for bags. Strange when there's a 2 hour+ delay that all the bags weren't there? Then waiting for paperwork followed by the part they needed was incorrect and a new one was on it's way from the hanger. Finally departed 1 hour plus later. The plane was an old cattle car. What is a trust company TV didn't work right, so at did not recline (no it wasn't an exit row.). Most of the crew and gate attendants were rude and indifferent except for on flight attendant. The entire row of seats didn't recline at all. She was very apologetic and acknowledged it was uncomfortable especially on a 5+hour flight. She did offer us something to eat, blankets earbud. Still my back was killing me upon arrival at Phoenix. JEt Blue. Get your act together. This is unacceptable."

Pros: "People were pleasant and helpful. The updates by text were very helpful."

Cons: "The plane was a couple of hours late. I also got tired of hearing the same message about why the plane was late, that it had to be cleaned and needed a security check before we could board, over and over and over while we waited. Every 10 minutes just started to make me angry. We didn't need that many apologies and thanks for our patience."

Pros: "Because the flight was only about 2/3 full, I was able to move to an empty window seat with an empty aisle seat next to it. Nice to be able to stretch my long legs out. Nice! Snacks were great too!!"

Cons: "The only thing I didn't like, was actually making it on to the flight. When I got to NYC, I was able to quickly pick up my bags and get through customs, and over to the next terminal (5) where Jet Blue is located. However, the check in terminals were NOT working and I had to stand in a huge line to recheck my bag and get my boarding pass. I would definitely missed my flight, but I managed (by calling out) to one of the Jet Blue ticket agents at the counter.she actually came to me, I told her my situations, and she let me come to the front of the line. I got my boarding pass, RAN to the gate, and just made my flight in the nick of time. Stressful! But, I was so glad for that kind Jet Blue woman who helped me out. I had been traveling nearly 24 hours and couldn't bear the thought of sitting in JFK for at least another 8 hours before the next available flight."

Cons: "The flight attendant was sitting next to me and wouldn’t shut up. So annoying!!!!"

Cons: "The flight took off two hours late. We were suppose to arrive at our destination at twenty minutes after midnight, and instead did not arrive until 2:30 a.m. You felt like the pilot got on the plane when you did with no planning involved on how to get to Austin. I later learned that Jet Blue has the worst on time record of all the airlines. And you got nothing to compensate you for the inconvenience. I am really disappointed in Kayak for not making it known on our ticket that we were flying from New York to Austin on Jet Blue. When buying my tickets on Kayak, it appeared on my itinerary that all my flights were on Iceland Air. It was very confusing to me, as I don't travel very frequently. And airport staff is not very helpful when you are in this situation. Due to all the confusion, I will probably use another airline search tool for my next trip to see if I can lessen the confusion."

Pros: "Seating is spacious, food was okay, entertainment was sufficient but not the best. Overall I was impressed with Jet Blue and will most likely fly with them again in future."

Cons: "Didn't like a huge argument taking place between one family which held the flight up by at least 30 minutes. The crew were very patient with this family, but the passengers were not. I think the family should have been removed and asked to take another flight so that my flight could leave on time. It made everyone very nervous because we didn't know to what extent this conflict would escalate, so we had to sit listening to 3 or 4 members of the family arguing and constantly removing passports from luggage and going back and forth in and out of the plane. One member of this family actually entered the cockpit, which unnerved me because of the risks with terrorists these days. The family appeared to be of muslim descent."

Cons: "I was delayed half a dozen times, only to be canceled. Rescheduled on a flight that was scheduled to depart two hours before the original flight. Rescheduled after an hour hold. That flight was delayed the following day. Was diverted to Baltimore only to find out only some of us on our flight are getting out by a rude agent. Then no information at all. Had to run to catch an amtrak. Later found out if I stayed I would have stayed another 13 hours in Baltimore. Missed work and had no one home to take care of my family. Oh, and travel insurance will not cover anything. The plane itself was falling apart. Seat was broken and dirty. Everyones lights were broken and it smelled."

Pros: "Literally the worst flight I’ve ever been on in my life."

Cons: "We were seated behind a woman who brought a sick cat into the flight. The stench of cat feces was overwhelming. When we addressed it with the staff, they were incredibly rude. I also shared that I had a very significant cat allergy. The staff continued to be incredibly rude, and eventually offered a single seat in the back, which would not accommodate the two of call bank mobile vibe customer service. The woman next to us also expressed her extreme discomfort and was condescended and disrespected, as well. Shocking, miserable experience."

Pros: "The entertament options from new releases to tv shows was good ."

Cons: "The staff was disorganized and seemed a bit frantic at one point they announce a need for a doctor on board . we where never told that the passanger was allright . There was a chilld who sat behind me that kick my chair the entire time and stuck his hands in between which where sticky in between the seat over and over again grabbing me he was loud and sick with what seem to be a cold and kept touching me though the seat would not listen to the adult that was with him i understand that he is a child but this went on the entire flight which was over five hours my back is still not ok . snacks where serve late into the filght once. staff was not friendly."

Cons: "Direct TV didn't work -- provided only one station, with a constant scroll across the bottom of the screen promoting the imminent start of movies that we're impossible to access. And even this one station would disappear from time to time. None of the seat-mounted controls mall of america flight deals -- including channel, volume, brightness, and music. And you couldn't even turn the damned thing off so it glowed in your face all through the overnight flight. In short, a terribly boring 6.5 hours aloft in terribly uncomfortable seats."

Pros: "We boarded right on time and the boarding process was smooth."

Cons: "Our flight was delayed three hours because of air conditioning malfunctioning on the plane. We sat on the tarmac for almost two and a half hours, and it must have been around 85 degrees on the plane. There was a lot of miscommunication about whether we would be switching aircraft. They finally told us to deplane because we were probably going to switch planes. After 15 minutes in the terminal, we reboarded the same plane. Got to LA 3 hours late so had to deal with horrible rush hour traffic, which we had hoped to avoid had we taken off on time."

Pros: "The convenience of landing and being so close to home. Only wished there were more flights avail with better times."

Cons: "1) The time of this flight is a bit much. I understand that it is close to my home but I know if Jet Blue adds 1 or 2 more flights, they would totally get booked up. The leaving JFK at almost midnight and then the time difference is horrible. 2)This flight had a child that got sick and we were delayed about 40-45 mins. Totally worth it but it made for an even harder time getting in at almost 630am PR time. 3) The turbulence was horrible. We were warned but so many customers were getting sick. Its was unpleasant to say the least."

Cons: "Flight was delayed over 5 hrs. Not the airline's fault but waited in the help line for over an hr before the agent told me there was no earlier flight I could be placed on - she was incorrect. Pointed out that there was another flight that had also been delayed and therefore hadn't left yet - she agreed, put me on standby. At the gate, the boarding crew did not know what they were doing. The plane was 20% empty but crew made situation very hectic by giving standby passengers seats, taking them away, and then realizing there was actually enough room on the plane. Crew was friendly but incompetent in terms of problem solving."

Cons: "TSA held me up with a 30 minute bag check so I arrived for an 11:30 AM flight at 11:16 AM. I was told that because I was a minute late they wouldn't let me on even though the plane was still in the runway and connected to the terminal. I asked to speak to a supervisor and the agent disappeared for 10 minutes while the plane took off. I then went to go speak to a customer service agent who wouldn't even look at me while I spoke. She actually started listening to and talking with another agent while I was talking to her. Then when I was finished, she started arguing with me until another agent said "he's not worth it." JetBlue just lost my business."

Pros: "The crew was helpful."

Cons: "Flight was over two hours late. No excuse was given. Original Departure time was 9:30pm. Was receiving alerts beginning from that morning notifying of delays which continued as I waited at the airport that night. This seems to happen frequently and nothing is ever done to make it up to travelers. On the plane, the audio for the tv had static so you couldn't actually hear anything. It doesn't seem like you can turn the tvs off, which is annoying as they emit light, so if you want to sleep you have to deal with the light from your tv."

Pros: "We got to our final destination."

Cons: "We needed to wait for "just a few minutes." The Captain said. Then, no other communication at all and we left over an hour late for a 45-minute flight, no explanation. I hate when they leave you in the dark and aren't upfront. The connection from Emirates to JetBlue we had was almost impossible. Two healthy adults, arriving on time in NYC with two hours to make a connection. With walking as fast as possible and not even going to the bathroom, we barely made the flight. Customs. Change terminals. Go through security again. ridiculous."

Pros: "There was a delay on my flight from Dubai to New York. as a result I missed my flight to Rochester. Now I am being told to rebook the flight and pay full price. I am getting the short end of the stick here. This is totally rip off"

Pros: "The people who worked there were professional. The other passengers were nice."

Cons: "The seats, even the upgraded ones, didn't recline sufficiently to let my head drop back. This meant that for a period of four plus hours, I was stuck in an incredibly uncomfortable sitting position -- tilted slightly forward, via the placement of my head. And it also meant that the only way to try to sleep was by pitching forward over the tray, hunched forward in a way that didn't allow me to breathe fully. I tried slouching down, and it didn't help. The way that the lumbar was positioned also pushed me forward. The pillows were too small to lift my head much off the tray. Perhaps it's my height and weight. If I was shorter or taller or thinner, my options might have increased. Regardless, if the airlines are going to squish us together, they might consider how to give us some flexibility with regards to placement of back rests, like we have in cars -- adjustment of lumbar curve."

This was greatly appreciated, especially after 5 days of drinking and partying. My buddies and I spent two and a half days in Las Vegas for a bachelor party followed by two days in the LA area for a wedding (yes we did it Hangover style) :) Thank you Delta!"

Signed up for sky miles previously based on good experiences, but this was one lane thing after another. Advice? Don't act like you're doing me a favor when asking people to check bags cause then it's "free"."

Cons: "This was an almost 6 hour long flight, LAX to OGG. The aircraft was older and for a 6 hour flight, they really should use a bigger and newer aircraft. The entertainment systems on the back of the seat worked sporadically and the PA system was too loud and every time the PA system was used while we had our headsets on, it was excruciating We had no warning in order to remove our headsets before it blasted into our ears. We were amazed that after paying a considerable sum for our tickets and being in the air for 6 hours, there was limited meal service and we were required to purchase a sandwich in order to eat. I fly Delta frequently and this was by far the worse flight I can remember."

Pros: "the upgraded seats with the new headrests were great. the pilots & crew did a great job despite the more-than-average turbulence."

Cons: "lack of any entertainment options whatsoever (not necessary but always a nice-to-have). More importantly, the fact that I checked-in with seat 14 and ended-up, seemingly randomly, in seat 28 (the back of the plane) when I had SPECIFICALLY selected a seat in the FRONT section of the plane. That was particularly annoying, especially since the optics of the situation were such that I used miles to purchase the flight and got "screwed-over" with respect to my seat selection as if my ticket held less weight than other passengers."

There were approx 20 in line yet only 2 gate agents at 4:30pm. One of the gate agents kept helping the Premium members and bypassing the standard line. The other agent was in a coma as his average person at counter was 10 min. Finally get to counter and they hand me a boarding pass going via Salt Lake in 30 minutes. But has a 3 hrs layover in SL. I then get to US Custom check for US residents re-entering and the line was a good 30 minute wait. You would think the Delta folks would have accounted for that line. I had to ask everyone in front of them if I could skip in front as the plane was now departing in 10 min. I had to then run on a bum knee and was the last to board. The agent at gate was saying we were calling your name but did they think I could have been stuck in customs? On that short of a window they should have walked me through Customs to make sure I got on a flight they wanted me to take versus my scheduled flight."

I was told if a passenger did not fly both ends of a round trip flight, we would need to pay a $50 cancellation fee for the privilege of not using the ticket we had already paid for. This is also the first airline I have flown that charges for carry ons and also charges for seat assignments during online checkin! That's right, I could have paid an extra $6 to select a middle seat in the back of the airplane! Except the online checkin system kept crashing so I never checked in online anyways. And finally the food options were horrible, the worst I have ever seen. I was really hungry, so I bought one of their snack packs (after the person at the counter assured me there would be sandwiches), and the snack pack was disgusting, even by airplane food standards. I'd prefer flying Spirit Air - at least they are up front about nickel-and-diming their customers. I'll do my best to avoid flying sun country again."

Check-in was a nightmare. At least half the self-serve kiosks were out of printer paper so were out of service. It was chaos. No one was directing traffic, so you had to hope you were in the right line. We finally got to a kiosk and checked in, and printed one bag tag for checked baggage. We were in line to drop off the checked bag, and the lady working that station just walked away and didn’t come back. After we waited a bit, another person in line went to ask at the nearby counter if the bag check person was coming back, and she wasn’t, so we had to find a new line and wait all over again. Once we got our bag dropped off and our tickets, the rest was easy. The security line went quickly, and the terminal was clean and nice. Our flight was great and the flight crew was excellent. I think if someone had kept up with the kiosk printers, a lot of the check-in headaches and stress would have been solved.

It was a smooth, uneventful ride. The staff was very friendly. The overhead compartments were a little small for my hiking style backpack, but I made it work.

She apologized profusely and was very appreciative for the trouble evernote had gone to for her. As she walked away the crew looked at each other and shook their heads. Pretty crummy way to treat customers!"

Stores kick off Black Friday but pandemic woes linger

"I think it is going to be a messy holiday season," said Neil Saunders, managing director at GlobalData Retail. "It will be a bit frustrating for retailers, consumers and the workers. We are going to see long lines. We are going to see messier stores. We are going to see delays as you collect online orders."

For years, Black Friday has been losing importance. Since 2011, stores jumpstarted the holiday shopping season by opening their doors on Thanksgiving to compete with Amazon and other rising online threats. But the shift merely cannibalized Black Friday sales. The shopping bonanza was further diluted when stores started marketing Black Friday sales for the full week and then later for the month.

The pandemic further diminished the importance of the Black Friday event, though some experts still believe it will again be the busiest day of the year. Last year, retailers started to offer the big holiday sales earlier in October in an effort to spread out shopping for safety reasons and to smooth out online shipping peaks. They also got rid of the Thanksgiving Day in-store shopping event and pushed all their discounts online. This year, retailers are embracing a similar strategy, though they are now pushing holiday discounts in stores as well.

Despite all the challenges, experts believe that sales for the Thanksgiving week and overall season will be strong.

Stores kick off Black Friday but pandemic woes linger

"I think it is going to be a messy holiday season," said Neil Saunders, managing director at GlobalData Retail. "It will be a bit frustrating for retailers, consumers and the workers. We are going to see long lines. We are going to see messier stores. We are going to see delays as you collect online orders."

For years, Black Friday has been losing importance. Since 2011, stores jumpstarted the holiday shopping season by opening their doors on Thanksgiving to compete with Amazon and other rising online threats. But the shift merely cannibalized Black Friday sales. The shopping bonanza was further diluted when stores started marketing Black Friday sales for the full week and then later for the month.

The pandemic further diminished the importance of the Black Friday event, though some experts still believe it will again be the busiest day of the year. Last year, retailers started to offer the big holiday sales earlier in October in an effort to spread out shopping for safety reasons and to smooth out online shipping peaks. They also got rid of the Thanksgiving Day in-store shopping event and pushed all their discounts online. This year, retailers are embracing a similar strategy, though they are now pushing holiday discounts in stores as well.

Despite all the challenges, experts believe that sales for the Thanksgiving week and overall season will be strong.

U.S. retail sales, excluding auto and gas, from this past Monday through Sunday are expected to increase 10% from last year and 12.2% from the 2019 holiday season, according to Mastercard SpendingPulse, which measures overall retail sales across all payment types including cash and check.

Online sales are forecast to increase 7.1% for that week, a slowdown from the massive 46.4% gain in the same period a year ago when shoppers collectively pivoted to the internet instead of shopping in person, according to Mastercard. For the overall holiday season, online sales should increase 10% from a year ago, compared with a 33% increase last year, according to Adobe Digital Economy Index.

Sales on Black Friday are expected to surge 20% from a year ago as store traffic comes back.

For the November and December period, the National Retail Federation, the nation's largest retail trade group, predicts that sales will increase between 8.5% and 10.5%. Holiday sales increased 8.2% in 2020 when shoppers, locked down during the early part of the pandemic, spent their money on pajamas and home goods.

Given the ground crew had EXTRA time to load and also considering the tiny set of options offered, this is senseless. Further, b/c they ran out of overhead bins, they offered to GATE check my luggage. This was essentially a lie - they put it with checked bags, unlike the gate checked items I watched others retrieve. The combination of these errors led me to arrive at the car rental desk after closure. This caused me to incur a taxi fare, so spend 30 min or so working out an alternative rental the following day, and then yet ANOTHER cab to the Car Desk to get the car. This is the only time in my hundred or so car rentals anything like this has happened. I will certainly think twice (or more) before booking Jet Blue again."

The kiosk did not recognize my recently issued US passport! Bloody annoying! Only able to print the pass after keying reservation code - yet, again not acceptable! The other, earlier attempts should have recognized me and found my reservation! Very upset with quality of service on the ground!"

Pros: "The atmosphere was just right for flying except when I entered the Aircraft I was totally turned off when I encountered a woman and her child and her carry-on pieces was already established in my seat 2A. She did move when I requested but what got me annoyed she had me locked in my seat because all her belongings remained in the passage way making it difficult to make my way to the restroom. IN MY OPINION THIS WAS A SAFETY HAZARD. I had every reason to suspect that she is known to the captain because he came to greet her. ERROLD"

Free TV didn't work right, so at did not recline (no it wasn't an exit row.). Most of the crew and gate attendants were rude and indifferent except for on flight attendant. The entire row of seats didn't recline at all. She was very apologetic and acknowledged it was uncomfortable especially on a 5+hour flight. She did offer us something to eat, blankets earbud. Still my back was killing me upon arrival at Phoenix. JEt Blue. Get your act together. This is unacceptable."

When I got to NYC, I was able to quickly pick up my bags and get through customs, and over to the next terminal (5) where Jet Blue is located. However, the check in terminals were NOT working and I had to stand in a huge line to recheck my bag and get my boarding pass. I would definitely missed my flight, but I managed (by calling out) to one of the Jet Blue ticket agents at the counter...she actually came to me, I told her my situations, and she let me come to the front of the line. I got my boarding pass, RAN to the gate, and just made my flight in the nick of time. Stressful! But, I was so glad for that kind Jet Blue woman who helped me out. I had been traveling nearly 24 hours and couldn't bear the thought of sitting in JFK for at least another 8 hours before the next available flight."

I later learned that Jet Blue has the worst on time record of all the airlines. And you got nothing to compensate you for the inconvenience. I am really disappointed in Kayak for not making it known on our ticket that we were flying from New York to Austin on Jet Blue. When buying my tickets on Kayak, it appeared on my itinerary that all my flights were on Iceland Air. It was very confusing to me, as I don't travel very frequently. And airport staff is not very helpful when you are in this situation. Due to all the confusion, I will probably use another airline search tool for my next trip to see if I can lessen the confusion."

Cons: "Didn't like a huge argument taking place between one family which held the flight up by at least 30 minutes. The crew were very patient with this family, but the passengers were not. I think the family should have been removed and asked to take another flight so that my flight could leave on time. It made everyone very nervous because we didn't know to what extent this conflict would escalate, so we had to sit listening to 3 or 4 members of the family arguing and constantly removing passports from luggage and going back and forth in and out of the plane. One member of this family actually entered the cockpit, which unnerved me because of the risks with terrorists these days. The family appeared to be of muslim descent."

That flight was delayed the following day. Was diverted to Baltimore only to find out only some of us on our flight are getting out by a rude agent. Then no information at all. Had to run to catch an amtrak. Later found out if I stayed I would have stayed another 13 hours in Baltimore. Missed work and had no one home to take care of my family. Oh, and travel insurance will not cover anything. The plane itself was falling apart. Seat was broken and dirty. Everyones lights were broken and it smelled."

I also shared that I had a very significant cat allergy. The staff continued to be incredibly rude, and eventually offered a single seat in the back, which would not accommodate the two of us. The woman next to us also expressed her extreme discomfort and was condescended and disrespected, as well. Shocking, miserable experience."

Cons: "The staff was disorganized and seemed a bit frantic at one point they announce a need for a doctor on board .. we where never told that the passanger was allright .. There was a chilld who sat behind me that kick my chair the entire time and stuck his hands in between which where sticky in between the seat over and over again grabbing me he was loud and sick with what seem to be a cold and kept touching me though the seat would not listen to the adult that was with him i understand that he is a child but this went on the entire flight which was over five hours my back is still not ok .. snacks where serve late into the filght once.. staff was not friendly..."

Cons: "Direct TV didn't work -- provided only one station, with a constant scroll across the bottom of the screen promoting the imminent start of movies that we're impossible to access. And even this one station would disappear from time to time. None of the seat-mounted controls worked -- including channel, volume, brightness, and music. And you couldn't even turn the damned thing off so it glowed in your face all through the overnight flight. In short, a terribly boring 6.5 hours aloft in terribly uncomfortable seats."

Pros: "We boarded right on time and the boarding process was smooth."

Cons: "Our flight was delayed three hours because of air conditioning malfunctioning on the plane. We sat on the tarmac for almost two and a half hours, and it must have been around 85 degrees on the plane. There was a lot of miscommunication about whether we would be switching aircraft. They finally told us to deplane because we were probably going to switch planes. After 15 minutes in the terminal, we reboarded the same plane. Got to LA 3 hours late so had to deal with horrible rush hour traffic, which we had hoped to avoid had we taken off on time."

Pros: "The convenience of landing and being so close to home. Only wished there were more flights avail with better times."

Cons: "1) The time of this flight is a bit much. I understand that it is close to my home but I know if Jet Blue adds 1 or 2 more flights, they would totally get booked up. The leaving JFK at almost midnight and then the time difference is horrible. 2)This flight had a child that got sick and we were delayed about 40-45 mins. Totally worth it but it made for an even harder time getting in at almost 630am PR time. 3) The turbulence was horrible. We were warned but so many customers were getting sick. Its was unpleasant to say the least."

Cons: "Flight was delayed over 5 hrs. Not the airline's fault but waited in the help line for over an hr before the agent told me there was no earlier flight I could be placed on - she was incorrect. Pointed out that there was another flight that had also been delayed and therefore hadn't left yet - she agreed, put me on standby. At the gate, the boarding crew did not know what they were doing. The plane was 20% empty but crew made situation very hectic by giving standby passengers seats, taking them away, and then realizing there was actually enough room on the plane. Crew was friendly but incompetent in terms of problem solving."

Cons: "TSA held me up with a 30 minute bag check so I arrived for an 11:30 AM flight at 11:16 AM. I was told that because I was a minute late they wouldn't let me on even though the plane was still in the runway and connected to the terminal. I asked to speak to a supervisor and the agent disappeared for 10 minutes while the plane took off. I then went to go speak to a customer service agent who wouldn't even look at me while I spoke. She actually started listening to and talking with another agent while I was talking to her. Then when I was finished, she started arguing with me until another agent said "he's not worth it." JetBlue just lost my business."

Pros: "The crew was helpful."

Cons: "Flight was over two hours late. No excuse was given. Original Departure time was 9:30pm. Was receiving alerts beginning from that morning notifying of delays which continued as I waited at the airport that night. This seems to happen frequently and nothing is ever done to make it up to travelers. On the plane, the audio for the tv had static so you couldn't actually hear anything. It doesn't seem like you can turn the tvs off, which is annoying as they emit light, so if you want to sleep you have to deal with the light from your tv."

Pros: "We got to our final destination."

Cons: "We needed to wait for "just a few minutes." The Captain said. Then, no other communication at all and we left over an hour late for a 45-minute flight, no explanation. I hate when they leave you in the dark and aren't upfront. The connection from Emirates to JetBlue we had was almost impossible. Two healthy adults, arriving on time in NYC with two hours to make a connection. With walking as fast as possible and not even going to the bathroom, we barely made the flight. Customs. Change terminals. Go through security again. ridiculous."

Pros: "There was a delay on my flight from Dubai to New York... as a result I missed my flight to Rochester. Now I am being told to rebook the flight and pay full price. I am getting the short end of the stick here. This is totally rip off"

Pros: "The people who worked there were professional. The other passengers were nice."

Cons: "The seats, even the upgraded ones, didn't recline sufficiently to let my head drop back. This meant that for a period of four plus hours, I was stuck in an incredibly uncomfortable sitting position -- tilted slightly forward, via the placement of my head. And it also meant that the only way to try to sleep was by pitching forward over the tray, hunched forward in a way that didn't allow me to breathe fully. I tried slouching down, and it didn't help. The way that the lumbar was positioned also pushed me forward. The pillows were too small to lift my head much off the tray. Perhaps it's my height and weight. If I was shorter or taller or thinner, my options might have increased. Regardless, if the airlines are going to squish us together, they might consider how to give us some flexibility with regards to placement of back rests, like we have in cars -- adjustment of lumbar curve."

This was greatly appreciated, especially after 5 days of drinking and partying. My buddies and I spent two and a half days in Las Vegas for a bachelor party followed by two days in the LA area for a wedding (yes we did it Hangover style) :) Thank you Delta!"

Signed up for sky miles previously based on good experiences, but this was one lane thing after another. Advice? Don't act like you're doing me a favor when asking people to check bags cause then it's "free"."

Cons: "This was an almost 6 hour long flight, LAX to OGG. The aircraft was older and for a 6 hour flight, they really should use a bigger and newer aircraft. The entertainment systems on the back of the seat worked sporadically and the PA system was too loud and every time the PA system was used while we had our headsets on, it was excruciating We had no warning in order to remove our headsets before it blasted into our ears. We were amazed that after paying a considerable sum for our tickets and being in the air for 6 hours, there was limited meal service and we were required to purchase a sandwich in order to eat. I fly Delta frequently and this was by far the worse flight I can remember."

Pros: "the upgraded seats with the new headrests were great. the pilots & crew did a great job despite the more-than-average turbulence."

Cons: "lack of any entertainment options whatsoever (not necessary but always a nice-to-have). More importantly, the fact that I checked-in with seat 14 and ended-up, seemingly randomly, in seat 28 (the back of the plane) when I had SPECIFICALLY selected a seat in the FRONT section of the plane. That was particularly annoying, especially since the optics of the situation were such that I used miles to purchase the flight and got "screwed-over" with respect to my seat selection as if my ticket held less weight than other passengers..."

I'm convinced that the routine of the job blinds both the TSA and airline employees to this fact. Clear and concise instructions would be great, regulars will continue to ignore you. Pros: "The entertainment was good and we didn't get charged for the blankets, as in other airlines, though it would have been nice not have needed them, the plane felt colder than 70 degrees!"

We were also packed in like sardines. I would pay more for more room, though business and first class are available, they're way too much."

Cons: "Some of the video I was watching on my personal screen was low quality. Difficult to hear and kept breaking up/freezing so I would miss important words. At one point I had to rewind it because I had missed something important. Captions were not available for the movie I was watching."

I tried to take things in stride (first world problems?) but it is a bummer to pay extra for the first class treatment and then to not have that great experience, especially on back to back 5ish hour flights."

Cons: "I showed up 2 hrs before the flight. Was told the flight from Toronto to Minn was delayed 30 minutes and go stand in line to speak to an agent. There were approx 20 in line yet only 2 gate agents at 4:30pm. One of the gate agents kept helping the Premium members and bypassing the standard line. The other agent was in a coma as his average person at counter was 10 min. Finally get to counter and they hand me a boarding pass going via Salt Lake in 30 minutes. But has a 3 hrs layover in SL. I then get to US Custom check for US residents re-entering and the line was a good 30 minute wait. You would think the Delta folks would have accounted for that line. I had to ask everyone in front of them if I could skip in front as the plane was now departing in 10 min. I had to then run on a bum knee and was the last to board. The agent at gate was saying we were calling your name but did they think I could have been stuck in customs? On that short of a window they should have walked me through Customs to make sure I got on a flight they wanted me to take versus my scheduled flight."

I was told if a passenger did not fly both ends of a round trip flight, we would need to pay a $50 cancellation fee for the privilege of not using the ticket we had already paid for. This is also the first airline I have flown that charges for carry ons and also charges for seat assignments during online checkin! That's right, I could have paid an extra $6 to select a middle seat in the back of the airplane! Except the online checkin system kept crashing so I never checked in online anyways. And finally the food options were horrible, the worst I have ever seen. I was really hungry, so I bought one of their snack packs (after the person at the counter assured me there would be sandwiches), and the snack pack was disgusting, even by airplane food standards. I'd prefer flying Spirit Air - at least they are up front about nickel-and-diming their customers. I'll do my best to avoid flying sun country again."

Long story short I bought and American airlines flight home I’ll never fly with them again... I’ll spread the word amongst my community."

I'll probably avoid this airline in the future just for the horrid seats alone."

When I go back from my seat to take it the personnel did not allow me and instead of telling me the reason with easy English (I still cannot understand spoken English well), he talked to another personnel who might be at the place where the carry on's were. I want to know why I cannot take the camera and if the personnel's behavior is appropriate"

Pros: "In this age of Making America Great Again...people need to learn to mind their own business and just...stop. Never have I been stared down by a flight crew of white folks more in my entire life. It's a little disappointing, as this was a flight back to my home town after years of being away..and Sun Country is based there. You can feel and see the aggressive body language coming at you, so I just ignore till then point It's chrystal clear, then allm of a sudden...the body language becomes self consciousness when they realize...i am here for flight, whatever other agenda you may have has nothing to do with me and won't get my attention. You need more people of color working you flights in and out of the Midwest. There's a certain sensitivity that comes with that. Disappointed, but not surprised."

It was so obviously, the old white lady sittikng next to me shot the stewardess a negative glance and all of a sudden it...would you like something to drink..as an after thought. I politely declined and looked out the window and played on my Kindle the entire flight."

When I got to my seat, I found out that they do not recline. DO NOT FN RECLINE. The lady forgot to tell me that. With lower back pain, I was extremely uncomfortable, in fact I could ot sit still. Horrible flight. THe stewardess could not help me, they said flight was full. I told them of my back pain, they didnt care, nothing we can do. THen I asked for a pillow and blanket so I can support my head. I was told there was a fee for a pillow and blanket.??????? I said ok since I was looking for relief, and comfort. She came back saying she was sold out. WTF"

Pros: "All the sandwiches they had had meat. They should have at least something besides cheese and crackers or junk food that is a vegetarian meal on flights traveling around lunch and dinner time!"

Cons: "I've flown twice with Sun Counrey and both times I was late in arriving by Two hours! That's a lot!"

Cons: "I did not like that I flew over 6 hours to California with no entertainment . None of their planes have wifi and no tvs. The chairs were also uncomfortable ."

Pros: "Always love Sun Country! Much better prices then most, service is always great (Midwest nice ;) and Terminal 2 is effortless to get through! Also got the NICEST lady on the phone when calling with questions prior to leaving, you guys are all around wonderful!"

Cons: "This flight was nothing like other sun country flights I have been on. The plane was old with uncomfortable seating and did not even have tray tables. I was seated next to the window in the emergency exit row and for the entire flight, the wall was freezing from poor insulation. I could even feel some wind coming out. Wasn't possible to sleep, and this was an overnight flight, not too happy."

Cons: "Sun Country has confusing regulations about what is and is not oversize baggage."

Pros: "The friendly staff of Sun Country brought me a wheelchair both in LAX and Minneapolis. These people were warm and friendly. It may be a normal part of their job but it felt like they were really invested in my well being. My flight with Delta earlier in the year did not at all meet these expectations."

I REPORT THIS AIRLINE TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU BECAUSE THAT IS A JOKE I GOT TO THE AIRPORT 1 HOUR BEFORE MY FLIGHT AND I CANT GET ON."

Pros: "clean plane and legroom good, esp. for tall person."

Cons: "On return flight, gates changed without any announcement. About 1/2 hour before return flight boarded they announced there would be no bathrooms on flight available. This would have been prohibitive for me flying that flight. Situation was rectified and they got two bathrooms working but it caused a great deal of undue stress. Is flying without facilities even legal?"

Pros: "Everything was expeditious, staff was courteous and the flight went smooth. Thanks Sun Country Air!"

Departing time was supposed to be at 1210, instead we took a bus to I think Mexico to board the plane then we taxied the plane all the way back to LAX and took off at 218 (well documented time). I was late for work so I was let go, my wife left me and took our 4 sort of intelligent kids with her. I'm just glad I could write this review before my phone services are shut down do to lack of funds. At the end of the day things could have been worse but I'll survive. "Just keep swimming"-Dory"

Cons: "This covers two flights - Neither left on time, neither got to the gate on time. Once the bags took 30 minutes to get to the carousel, the other time staff gave wrong carousel and several passengers sat waiting. Rude flight attendants have no desire to actually serve on-board. The entire plane smells like the McDonald's dumpster that they fish their "Cheeseburgers" out of. Nothing good to say about the entire experience and I will never fly them again. Word of advice to all flight attendants working for Sun Country: Fly somewhere as a PASSENGER on Delta and see how it's done. Take notes.....lots of them."

Pros: "Sun Country has a system which promotes smooth boarding. First to board are for those with special needs requiring more time (families with kids, etc.), then the first class passengers, then those without carry-on, or who are willing to leave their carry-on as gate check, then for the first 10 rows, and then the back rows, and then everyone else. This seems to work fairly well since it minimizes jams associated with front row seating first, as well as seating those who have large carry-ons."

Cons: "The only thing is that they should emphasize more that those who board first because they do not have carry-on, but just personal bags, should place those personal bags under the seat rather than use that to board first and then take up valuable space in the overhead compartment. I saw people board first claiming only personal bags, and then they would deposit their bags towards the front in overhead compartments, or they would just put their bags sideways in the overhead--taking up twice as much space as carryon bags going in lengthwise."

I think the flight attendant and first class was terrific, but whoever had to work in coach where I say didn’t seem happy about it, extremely mediocre service, not friendly, just putting 1 foot in front of the other. Just seemed “over it.”

Check-in was a nightmare. At least half the self-serve kiosks were out of printer paper so were out of service. It was chaos. No one was directing traffic, so you had to hope you were in the right line. We finally got to a kiosk and checked in, and printed one bag tag for checked baggage. We were in line to drop off the checked bag, and the lady working that station just walked away and didn’t come back. After we waited a bit, another person in line went to ask at the nearby counter if the bag check person was coming back, and she wasn’t, so we had to find a new line and wait all over again. Once we got our bag dropped off and our tickets, the rest was easy. The security line went quickly, and the terminal was clean and nice. Our flight was great and the flight crew was excellent. I think if someone had kept up with the kiosk printers, a lot of the check-in headaches and stress would have been solved.

It was a smooth, uneventful ride. The staff was very friendly. The overhead compartments were a little small for my hiking style backpack, but I made it work.

Now we got stuck in Charlotte for the night. Nothing like being late for your Grandma’s funeral. Pathetic AA! PATHETIC!"

When we tried to explain the previous flights she responded with “I just explained this to the other passengers...it’s not allowed.” We didn’t argue, and gave the bag to the personnel in attendance, but the tone for the duration of the flight continued."

Cons: "Watched a very weird interaction between Muslim (with a hajib) women with a kiddo and desk crew. She wanted to sit next to her child on the flight and needed to switch seats to be able to. Woman was very gracious and understanding that she was asking for an accommodation. Ends up her flight to Philly had been moved to a different gate after they had found a volunteer to switch seats. Volunteer was totally unfazed but Desk crew made it seem as tho the Muslim mom was at fault for the time and trouble they had had to go through to accommodate her. She apologized profusely and was very appreciative for the trouble evernote had gone to for her. . As she walked away the crew looked at each other and shook their heads. Pretty crummy way to treat customers!"

AG Garland directs federal prosecutors to prioritize cases involving violence on flights

Garland issued a memo that cites dozens of cases referred by the Federal Aviation Administration to the FBI for investigations of violent air travel incidents. The referrals are the result of an information-sharing system in place between the agencies.
The memo also instructs prosecutors to coordinate with state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies within the next 20 days to ensure incidents are referred to the FBI and US attorneys for possible federal prosecution.
The move comes as the US enters the peak holiday travel season, which is expected to be the busiest since the coronavirus pandemic began. Major US airlines are operating with fewer pilots and flight attendants than they were before the pandemic, and with domestic airline bookings nearly back to normal, airlines are trying to do more with less this holiday season.
"Passengers who assault, intimidate or threaten violence against flight crews and flight attendants do more than harm those employees; they prevent the performance of critical duties that help ensure safe air travel," Garland said in a Justice Department statement.
The FAA has received 5,338 reports of unruly passengers, about three-quarters involving the federal transportation mask mandate, and has opened more than 1,000 investigations.
It has publicly disclosed more than $1.6 million in fines against passengers accused of violence or misbehavior, including more than $161,000 against eight passengers announced this week.
Overall the number of domestic flights planned from last weekend to just after New Year's Day is down 12% compared with the same period in 2019, according to data from Cirium, an airline data tracking service.
