How Do I Check My Visa Account Balance Online?

While it does not offer credit cards directly to consumers, Visa does partner with banks, financial institutions and credit unions to offer Visa-branded credit and debit cards. As a Visa credit card holder, you can check your account balance online. You can also check Visa gift card and prepaid card balances online.

Find the Issuing Bank

To check your Visa credit or debit card balance online, start by finding the issuing bank’s website. Most cards include the customer service phone number and website on the back of the card. You can also visit the Visa personal card website to find a link to each issuer’s website. The credit card issuer's contact information is usually included with the materials you receive when opening the card.

Sign Up for Online Account

Before you can log in and check your balance, you must sign up for an online account through the issuing bank or credit union. Registering for an online account requires the card number, three-digit code on the back, a valid email address and a password. Chase, for example, asks for the card number, your Social Security number and a user ID. Once logged in, you can often find your balance on the home page of your account. Otherwise, find a link for “check balance” or “view account balance.”

Check Gift Card Balances

Visa also collaborates with banks and credit unions to offer gift cards and prepaid cards. Most gift and prepaid card issuers include the websites on the back of the card where you can check the balance of your card. The information you need to access your online account varies depending on the issuer and can include the card number, three-digit code on the back of the card and your email address. For example, the Visa gift card from TD Bank simply requires the first six digits of the card to log in and check your balance, while the Wells Fargo card requires the full card number and the three digits on the back.

Look Up Prepaid Card Balances

If you have a Visa prepaid card, you can check your balance online by visiting the issuing institution’s website. The website is listed on the back of the card, or you can view the list of all issuing banks from the Visa prepaid card website. From the issuing bank’s website, log into your account and the balance is usually displayed on the main page. If you don’t have an online account, you can sign up for one by providing your email address and creating a log-in and password. For example, the first time you want to log in, the AchieveCard Visa requires you to enter your card number and then prompts you to choose a log-in and password.

How to activate your EIP card

You check visa debit card balance netspend get a new EIP card for the latest stimulus round; if you got an EIP card for the previous stimulus, the IRS won’t refill it. Call 800-240-8100 (TTY: 800-241-9100) to activate your new card. You’ll need to provide your name, address and Social Security number. You will also be asked to create a four-digit personal identification number (PIN) required for ATM transactions and automated assistance and to hear your balance. For security, don’t use personal information as your PIN. For cards with more than one name, only the primary cardholder (listed first) may activate the card. There is no charge to activate the card.

You can create a user name and password for your card online at the Money Network site. Be sure to have your card handy when you log in. You can see your balance and transaction history online any time at EIPCard.com. You can get the same information by calling the toll-free number (800-240-8100).

How to use your EIP card

You can generally use your card without a fee to make purchases anywhere Visa debit cards are accepted — in stores, online or over the phone. You can also use your EIP card to pay most bills, get cash back with a PIN debit purchase (where available), buy groceries, and get cash from ATMs that carry the Allpoint or MoneyPass brands. (You can search for surcharge-free ATMs at EIPCard.com.) And you may be able to pay your mortgage or rent if your bank or landlord accepts Visa payments.

Although most transactions don't charge a fee, a few do. For example, you’ll pay 25 cents for each balance inquiry at an ATM, and $2 for each out-of-network withdrawal after your first one.

You can also easily transfer the money on your EIP card to your bank at EIPCard.com or by using the Money Network Mobile App, which can be downloaded onto a smart phone. The transaction limit on transfers to a bank account is $2,500.

You will need the routing and account numbers for your bank account. If you lose your card (or accidentally throw it out), you can get a free replacement through MetaBank customer service. It will also waive any initial fee charged to a customer from an earlier date. You don’t need to know your card number to request a replacement, and you can also request a replacement by calling 800-240-8100 and choosing option 2 from the main menu.

Great banking alternative

Credit Karma Member

I have used this card for over a year as a primary bank account. I get my direct deposits early like a day or two early. My husband and I both use the account with both of our earnings being deposited. They will even supply several additional cards. Since we direct deposit over $500 we upgraded to "Premier" and so fees are about $5 a month. I'm willing to pay a monthly fee to have our money deposited sooner. Also with premier you are eligible for overdraft protection. You also can get a savings account, and your account number works just in case you need to pay a bill using a bank transfer. My only complaints is that I wish they had a chip card. Another thing to keep in mind is that there are ATM fees. I don't really use cash but if I do need cash I use cash back at the register.

The worst

Credit Karma Member

I loaded money on the card at the same time I purchased it. I submitted the documents netspend requires to verify my identity and address. However, netspend check visa debit card balance netspend activate the card for me to access my funds because they couldn’t verify my identity. Again, I submitted copies of my driver’s license and social security card to verify my identity and address. I requested a refund, since I couldn’t use the card. They told me that they couldn’t issue a refund because they couldn’t verify my address—the same address they have on their records.

Awful

Credit Karma Member

Awful, must send more then one form of id just to use this thing. No after hours customer service but you can easily contact a person any time of day to get a new one of these so they can hold your money until you jump through all the hoops at their convenience.

Total scam

Credit Karma Member

They want your social security number to use this card. We do not give that out. Especially speaking to someone over seas and no way to discus with anyone locally. My husband has 2 hours invested in phone time trying to activate them without social security number. They say there is a way, but we have not been able to access the money on the cards. He has been hung up on 4 times, and not because he is being rude. Seems to be because they get tired of www walmart money card customer service to figure it out so they just hang up and move on to a different person. Accents are heavy and hard to understand. I'm not sure they even know entirely how the cards actually work. If you are fine with giving your social out your experience may be different. My advice is NEVER give your social security number to any company over the phone EVER.

Disgusting

Credit Karma Member

No overdraft protection nor any clear warning, if any at all, about lack of protection and are currently praying it won't affect my credit because I can't get anywhere to reload it

A joke.

Credit Karma Member

I got this card in the form of a $50 gift card from a family member for Christmas. I have been unable to use it because they force you to call in and give ALL of your personal info including SSN. THEN, they said there were restrictions on the card that had to be removed. They asked all of my personal info four times until I finally asked for a manager. I was on hold waiting for 20 minutes until I finally gave up and hung up. I just wanted to be able to use the gift card I was given. You can't unless you set up an account with them which I refuse to do so my family member wasted their money and I can't use my gift. Scammers and crooks.

It's the worst card ever!!

Credit Karma Member

Don't get one!! They wanted proof that it was me, I sent them over 60 pictures and still it wasn't good enough! They don't mind taking your direct deposit and keeping it!! They treated myself horrible!!

Direct deposit of mt paycheck is late.

Credit Karma Member

Don't trust NetSpend with your money! I was supposed to have my paycheck direct deposited today as it has been for 3 years. But it didn't come. Don't believe their hype abiut getting your pay early, I'm getting mine at least a day late (if I ever get it) I'm done with NetSpend.

Do not recommend, fraudulent practices

Credit Karma Member

Today (8/17/18), I received messages detailing transactions on my account that I did not make or approve, as I was at my place of employment at the time the purchases were made. I called Customer Service immediately and was repeatedly bounced from one agent to another, who all had information that severely conflicted itself. A police report has been filed and the store that the purchases were made have been contacted. This was all done by me, the company made no immediate attempt to resolve the issue. In check visa debit card balance netspend, I was told I could wait anywhere from 10 to 90 days for a refund. This is utterly unacceptable, as I need access to my funds to eat and continue to work. The agents I spoke to were very unhelpful. Jaira (172648) was incredibly unhelpful and dismissive. She at one point stalled severely on getting a supervisor about her and lied check visa debit card balance netspend being at the top of the command chain. Her supervisor Archie(370741) and coworker Dino (424620) were equally unhelpful. This business has zero provisions for customers in crisis. My card was not stolen or lost, and I carry a wallet with RFID reader blocking technology. The company can't explain to me how my funds went missing or what I am expected to do until this issue is resolved. I have no money to eat or move around. The lack of compassion and professionalism at Netspend is astounding.

How Do You Deactivate or Cancel a Netspend Card?

Netspend was founded in 1999 and is a provider of prepaid debit cards for both personal and commercial customers. According to its website, Netspend serves 68 million underbanked consumers. Those who use Netspend generally don't have a traditional bank account or choose alternative financial services options. Consumers can load their debit cards with cash, link them up to bank accounts for transfers, or sign up for direct deposit for their paychecks, income tax refunds, or other benefits.

Great banking alternative

However, netspend wouldn’t activate the card for me to access my funds because they couldn’t verify my identity.

Seems to be because they get tired of trying to figure it out so they just hang up and move on to a different person.

B+ All around the board - Great alternative to many/most direct deposit and or employer pay card(s). I get my check 2 days early like clockwork and Netspends website and functions improve often. Not the best but definitely far from the worst. love the virtual card accts u can create aswell.

A joke.

In addition, I was told I could wait anywhere from 10 to 90 days for a refund. This is utterly unacceptable, as I need access to my funds to eat and continue to work. The agents I spoke to were very unhelpful. Jaira (172648) was incredibly unhelpful and dismissive. She at one point stalled severely on getting a supervisor about her and lied about being at the top of the command chain.

How to activate your EIP card

You will get a new EIP card for the latest stimulus round; if you got an EIP card for the previous stimulus, the IRS won’t refill it.

Prepaid debit cards like Netspend are considered by many to be a fast and reliable way to make whatever payments required. The card allows a debit, credit, and automated teller machine (ATM) withdrawal feature. Netspend also offers several other benefits, such as online account access and a payback rewards program.

Just like with any other bank account, you may come across a time when you need to deactivate or cancel your account and card altogether. So how do you go about doing this? You can choose from several options when you need to cancel or close your Netspend card. But be wary, as there may be fees involved with closing your account. Read on to find out the steps to close a Netspend account, and how much it may cost you.

Key Takeaways

  • Netspend offers prepaid debit cards to consumers who don't bank with traditional institutions or who prefer alternative financial options.
  • Close a Netspend account by making a withdrawal from an ATM for the full balance
  • Customers may also call to request a check for the full balance.
  • These options are not free: Withdrawals cost $2.50 at domestic ATMS, and check requests cost $5.95.
  • Users can also call Netspend customer service directly at 1-866-387-7363 to close an account.

3 Ways to Deactivate Your Netspend Card

Drain Your Balance at an ATM

The simplest way to cancel or close your prepaid debit card from Netspend is to withdraw all your funds from the account. This means visiting an ATM to do the transaction. But doing so won't be free—it comes at a cost.

Netspend charges users a domestic ATM cash withdrawal fee of $2.50. This does not include the additional ATM transaction fee, which averages between $2 to $5, depending on where you make the withdrawal. If you use an international ATM, the withdrawal fee is $4.95 in addition to the ATM's own transaction fee. There is also a foreign transaction surcharge calculated at a rate of 3.5% of the U.S. dollar amount being withdrawn from foreign ATMs.

One issue with closing your account this way is that many ATMs only dispense cash in $20 denominations, while others offer $50 and $5 options. This may cause issues when you try to close out your balance completely, especially if you do not have the exact amount.

A full list of Netspend's fees are available online for Visa debit and MasterCard debit cards.

Netspend charges a $2.50 fee to withdraw money from an ATM and $5.95 to request a check.

Request a Check

Another way to close or cancel your Netspend account is by requesting a check. Netspend estimates this process takes three or four weeks. But like the previous option, there is a fee. If you request a check, there is a $5.95 fee applied by Netspend against the remaining balance

Netspend doesn't charge a check fee, though, if the account balance is less than $6.94 when you close the account. If your account balance is below $1, Netspend does not issue a refund check. In order to request a check for the balance of your account, you need to contact Netspend customer service at 1-866-387-7363 or by logging in to the online account center.

Call Netspend Directly

The third option to close your account is to call Netspend directly at 1-866-387-7363. This may be the fastest and most convenient option. One downside to calling the company to close your account is that you give Netspend the opportunity to try and offer incentives to keep your account open. You may continue on with the process to close it, or you may find the offer enticing enough to keep your account open just a little longer.
