How to check amazon promotional credit -

How Amazon Financing Works

Amazon has a unique positioning for offering credit. It has 150 million Prime subscribers, millions of users trafficking its platform, and over 2.5 million sellers. Like other retailers, this creates a huge opportunity to offer its customers credit products and financing options. Moreover, its platform for sellers also creates an opportunity to offer business credit.

Amazon’s foray into financial services has always been about building opportunities for spending within the Amazon ecosystem. The company has historically been active in several fintech areas, particularly online payments. Then in 2011, it launched small business lending, and from there started to roll out different credit card products for both its small business and consumer users.

Read more about how Amazon's financing options work and what they have to offer.

Key Takeaways

  • Amazon offers customers several revolving credit options.
  • Amazon’s most popular credit cards are the Amazon Rewards Visa Card, Amazon Prime Rewards Visa and the Amazon Store Card.
  • Amazon also offers small business credit options, including the Amazon Business Prime American Express.

What is Amazon Financing?

Amazon financing encompasses a range of credit product and service offerings by Amazon.com to help consumer and small business customers to pay for purchases over time. Terms and conditions vary depending on creditworthiness and the structure of loans involve both installment and open-ended credit arrangements.

Small Business Lending

Amazon launched small business lending for its sellers in 2011. Not highly publicized, the lending was offered to sellers somewhat cautiously based on Amazon selling criteria. Since its launch, Amazon’s small business lending has issued over $5 billion to small businesses on its platform. Its offering continues to be on an invitation-only basis.

Amazon Credit Card Options

Financing is available to Amazon users through three credit card options—the Amazon Rewards Visa Card, the Amazon Prime Rewards Signature Visa, the Amazon Store Card, and the Amazon Secured Card. If approved, applicants receive a credit limit based on their credit score and other screening factors.

150 million+

The number of Amazon Prime members in the U.S. as of the end of 2019.

The Amazon Store Card

The Amazon Store Card was rolled out first in 2015. It has two iterations. One card is provided for Prime members and the other for non-Prime members.

The Amazon Store Card has no annual fee. It is offered in partnership with Synchrony Bank. Cardholders who have a Prime membership can use the card to get 5% cash back on any purchase made with Amazon.

The Amazon Store Card can only be used on Amazon.

All approved cardholders get an Amazon gift card. Promotional financing and special financing options are available. Customers can choose either Equal Monthly Payments or Special Financing after choosing the Amazon Store Card as their payment method.

Equal Monthly Payments:

  • Six-month equal payments financing on purchases of $150 or more
  • 12-month equal payments financing on purchases of $600 or more
  • 24-month equal payments financing on select purchases

With these options, cardholders make equal payments on purchases made through Amazon at a 0% annual percentage rate (APR) for the duration of the financing period. The required payment under this option is the purchase price including tax and shipping, which is divided equally by the length of financing. So, if you purchase something for $450, you have six months to pay it off. Your payments will be $75 per month or $450 ÷ 6.

Customers who carry a balance beyond the term of the financing incur a late fee until the balance is paid in full. Interest is also assessed on the full promotional balance from the date of the purchase

The other option is Special Financing, which also has three tiers:

  • Six-month special financing on purchases of $150 or more
  • 12-month special financing on purchases of $600 or more
  • 24-month special financing on select purchases of $800 or more

Customers don't pay interest if the entire purchase is paid off within the specified length of time. Monthly minimums are required. Any balance that remains incurs interest and a late fee. The APR is 25.99%, and interest is also assessed on the full promotional balance from the date of the purchase even if you've made payments. This means it's in your best interest to pay off the card before the specified time period, otherwise you'll incur a lot of extra charges.

The Amazon Rewards Visa Card

The Amazon Rewards Visa Card was launched in 2017. It is also offered in two iterations, for Prime and non-Prime members. New cardholders can get an Amazon gift card upon approval. Both cards have an APR that ranges between 14.24% to 22.24% depending on the cardholder's credit score.

The card is available to any registered Amazon customer. There is no annual fee and the card doesn't charge foreign transaction fees. This card is offered by Chase Bank. The Rewards Visa Card rewards cardholders through cash back on multiple levels.

Amazon Rewards Visa cardholders can earn 3% cash back on purchases made through Amazon and at Whole Foods. These cardholders earn 2% cash back on purchases at restaurants, gas stations, and participating drug stores. Rewards Visa cardholders can also earn 1% cash back on any other purchases.

Cardholders with an Amazon Prime membership get approved for the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card. These cardholders earn an additional 5% on Amazon and Whole Foods purchases.

Using the cash back can help offset the cost of the yearly Prime membership fee of $119. Prime members who spend about $200 a month or more at Amazon will essentially recover the annual fee.

The Amazon Secured Card

In June of 2019, Amazon launched a secured card to help customers with bad credit. The card is known as the Amazon Prime Store Card Credit Builder. Cardholders must make a required deposit ranging from $100 to $1,000. The deposited amount is also the credit limit.Amazon offers secured cardholders the same benefits as the Amazon Store Card, which includes both the Equal Monthly Payments and Special Financing payment options.

Other Amazon Financing Options

With a strong position in alternative financial service offerings, Amazon also advertises some other notable payments types:

  • Amazon Business Card: The Amazon Business American Express Card was launched in October 2018. It offers special perks to business shoppers, including discounts for its Amazon Web Services.
  • Amazon.com Corporate Credit Line: A corporate account that allows for multiple users to make purchases.
  • Shop with Points: Allows customers to use points accumulated from points cards against their Amazon purchases.
  • Reload Your Balance: Load funds to an Amazon gift card to keep a balance for purchases.

Additionally, Amazon has also talked of a checking account option that would build out on its prepaid gift card offering. In November 2019, Google announced its plans for a checking account option, but Amazon has been reticent to make this move.

amazon-gift-card

Some people think of gift cards as a lazy gift. Naysayers say it's akin to giving someone a boxful of cash so you don't need to put any effort into thinking of a personal, thoughtful gift. I say gift cards are awesome for both the sender and recipient. And right now, it's better than ever for the sender. I have a deal that can net you a free $15 just for giving a $50 Amazon gift card. What can be sweeter than that? All you have to do is order a $50 Amazon gift card and apply promo code GIFTCARD2021 at checkout. You should get a $15 promotional credit applied to your Amazon account a few days later.

If that sounds too good to be true, you're partially right. There are a lot of terms and conditions, not the least of which is that it's exclusively for new gift card customers -- so if you've bought a gift card with your Amazon account before, you're out of luck. Some other rules: The gift card must be $50 or more and you need to complete the order before June 28. When you apply the promo code at checkout, you'll know it worked if you see this message at the top of the page:

"Congratulations, your purchase qualifies you for an Amazon.com credit. A one-time $15 promotional credit will be automatically applied to your account and emailed to you within three (3) days after shipping."

While the deal definitely works, it appears to be finicky. I've heard from a handful of readers who don't recall ever buying a gift card, but can't get the deal to work anyway. Others breezed right through. So I suppose you'll have to give it a shot to see if the Amazon gods bestow a credit upon your account. Good luck, and if it works for you, enjoy spending your free $15.

What is an Amazon Courtesy Credit and How to Get It

Did you notice any of your Amazon statement’s containing the term ‘Amazon courtesy credit’? Do you wonder what it is?

As you all know, I am a massive fan of the Amazon platform. In the past few years, I have spent a lot of time analyzing and studying it to understand better how it works and what kind of features and benefits they offer.

I also worked hard to figure out how to show you better these benefits and how you can use them.

That’s why I have been working on a series of posts regarding Amazon. So far, I have covered quite a bit of different topics. The ones that caught the most attention are guides related to finding an Amazon wish list and editing Amazon reviews.

If you haven’t checked out those, make sure you do.

The topic of today’s post is Amazon courtesy credit.

Amazon doesn’t go out of their way to explain and make this service accessible, but they frequently use it. You have probably got an email about it at one point, but you may have ignored it.

It’s not strange for massive eCommerce platforms to offer courtesy credits, and Amazon made an effort to have their own.

What is an Amazon Courtesy Credit?

Amazon courtesy credit is an Amazon special issued by the platform to mitigate damages or reward specific actions. You can even get it after you file particular complaints.

It’s often confused with a gift card balance or promo codes. Still, it’s a different thing, as Amazon courtesy credit is being given for delays that happen or to rectify Amazon’s mistakes.

How Amazon decides to give courtesy credit is totally up to their internal policy and discretion, and it’s tough (and not recommended) to abuse it.

What To Use It For?

You can use Amazon courtesy credit for purchasing pretty much any Amazon product. There have been certain complaints that those credits went missing after they haven’t been used for a longer period.

Those concerns were low in number, so they didn’t present a significant concern, but if you want to be on the safe side, you can opt in to use the courtesy credits fairly quickly.

How to Get an Amazon Courtesy Credit?

There are a couple of different ways to obtain an Amazon courtesy credit that I have used, so let’s cover them.

Slow Shipping Method

If you are an Amazon Prime user, there’s a way to get amazon courtesy credit by choosing a slow shipping method. Being an Amazon Prime user, you get an option of a free one day or two day shipping, however, when checking out, you also get an option of choosing a several day long shipping.

It is called “Free No-Rush Shipping”.

By choosing this option, you can sometimes be credited with an Amazon courtesy credit. Be aware that this option is not guaranteed, and you can often only get about $1.50 in digital reward that you can use to purchase digital products like eBooks, music, videos etc.

Also, these offers have expiration dates, so you must use them in a timeframe provided by Amazon.

Filing a Dispute

Another and more common way to obtain Amazon courtesy credit is by filing a dispute. Of course, this shouldn’t be abused, and disputes should be only filed when there’s something wrong with your order.

If your order hasn’t been delivered on time or you have never even received the package, you can open a dispute.

In these cases, Amazon will often offer a courtesy credit to “repair the relationship” because of the mistake on their end.

These credits can be anywhere from $1 to $20+, and you will get an email notifying you of it.

How to Use Amazon Courtesy Credit?

Be aware that you will be able to use Amazon courtesy credit to make purchases for products that are fulfilled and sold by Amazon.

On each product listing, you can find information about who is selling and fulfilling the products, and each of these needs to say Amazon.

Amazon courtesy credit is being applied automatically at your check out, as part of your purchase. You can see those credits being applied at every purchase breakdown and shipping and all the other fees.

If you choose to not use a courtesy credit in any instance, you can deselect it manually when choosing a payment option.

How to Check Your Amazon Courtesy Credit?

If you are looking to check out your courtesy credit balance, you will be able to find that information on the following link.

If a category for Amazon courtesy credit is missing, that means you don’t have any.

What is Amazon Prime Courtesy Credit?

I often get asked this question. There’s no difference between regular Amazon courtesy credit and Amazon Prime courtesy credit.

The only difference is in what we have already explained. That is how you can obtain courtesy credit, where Amazon Prime users can do it by delaying shipping and giving Amazon extra breathing room in fulfilling all orders.

Final Word

We have come down to the end of this article. I hope you now have a better understanding of Amazon courtesy credit, how to check it and how to use it in the future.
