The 35-year-old footballer was killed as the Mercedes he was travelling in came off the road and burst into flames near to his hometown in Spain.
At the time, then 11-year-old Reyes Jr. shared a moving tribute to his dad.
The oldest of the former late attacker’s three children, posted his loving message along with a picture of the last time he was with his father.
Jose Jr. spoke out about his grief at the terrible loss of his young dad, which translated from Spanish read: "This is the last moment we have spent together dad.

"That day you gave me advice as you always do, but today you've gone to not come back and it's a very hard day for me!
"I was and I will always be very proud of you dad.

Arsenal and the wider world of European football paid emotional tribute to José Antonio Reyes on Saturday after the 35-year-old was killed in a car accident in Spain.
The former Spain midfielder, who won five Europa League titles and was part of Arsenal’s unbeaten “Invincibles” squad in 2003-04, died when the vehicle he was travelling in crashed on a road between his home city of Utrera and Seville. His cousin, Jonathan Reyes, also died.
Arsenal, for whom he made 110 appearances, said Reyes had a “special place” in the club’s history, calling him “a hugely popular figure at our club … he will always hold a special place in our hearts”. Atlético Madrid, where Reyes won the Europa League in 2010 and 2012, said: “The Atlético family is in mourning. [He] will forever be in our hearts.” Barcelona, meanwhile, hailed “a brilliant, charismatic player … an outstanding figure”.
Reyes made his senior debut for Sevilla aged just 16, quickly attracting attention with a potent mix of pace and clinical finishing. Arsenal paid £10.5m to bring the then-20-year-old to England in 2004, where he played a part in their remarkable unbeaten league season. Arsène Wenger led tributes from former colleagues, writing: “I am devastated to hear the terrible news. To his family and friends, all support from everyone in the Arsenal family. He will remain forever in our hearts.”
Former teammate Freddie Ljungberg said he was “numbed by the news … Gone far too soon. My thoughts are with his family and friends.” Thierry Henry wrote: “I’m devastated to hear the sad news … Wonderful player, superb teammate and exceptional human being. I wish his family and friends continued strength and courage.”
Arsenal loaned Reyes to Real Madrid in 2006 before selling him to Real’s city rivals Atlético a year later. A return to his home club Sevilla followed in 2012, after which he moved on to play for Espanyol, Córdoba, and then China’s Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard. He returned home at the start of this year, signing a five-month deal with Extremadura.
During his storied career, Reyes also won 21 caps for Spain between 2003 and 2006, and was part of their 2006 World Cup squad.
Of all his career honours across Europe, Reyes always rated the silverware won with his boyhood club as the most special. Talking before the 2014 Europa League final, which Sevilla won 4-2 on penalties over Benfica, Reyes said: “When I was small, I dreamed of winning a title with Sevilla. Winning a title is the nicest thing there is. You feel something special, like you’ve done a really good job. It’s also great to see the fans so happy. In all the teams I’ve been at I’ve done very well. But Sevilla is my home.”
A minute’s silence was due to be observed before the Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham. The Uefa president, Aleksander Ceferin, said: “He had a glittering career and won numerous honours jpmorgan chase login access he played. Reyes made his first senior appearance for the La Liga club at the age of 16 in 2000, making him the youngest debutant in Sevilla’s history. During his second stint with the Andalusian side, which stretched from 2012 to 2016, he lifted three successive Europa League titles.
He made his name in the Premier League with Arsenal, joining the side in January 2004 before going on to win the title later that season as an ‘Invincible’.

Former clubs and teammates have taken to social media to pay their respects to the winger, who also enjoyed spells at Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
Arsenal tweeted: “Everyone at Arsenal is devastated by the shocking news that our former player Jose Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision in Spain.
“Rest in peace, Jose.”
Arsene Wenger signed Reyes for Arsenal, and he told the club on Saturday: “I am devastated to hear the terrible news about Jose.
“To his family and friends, all support from everyone in the Arsenal family. He will remain forever in our hearts.”
Other former Arsenal colleagues in the form of Freddie Ljungberg, Ray Parlour, Robert Pires and Abou Diaby shared tributes on social media too, along with current Gunners boss Unai Emery.
Ljungberg said he was “numbed by the news” about his former teammate, while Parlour described the former Jose reyes arsenal international as a “great talent”.
Emery tweeted his condolences in Spanish that translated as: “Deeply sad and speechless after learning of this tragic news. I’ll never forget your magic and your smile Jose, never. Reyes spent four years at Atletico in total and was part of the squad that won the Europa League in 2010 and 2012.
After leaving Sevilla in 2016, Reyes went on to play for Espanyol, Cordoba and Chinese side Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard before returning to Spain to join Extremadura earlier this year.
The second division club said in a statement on their Twitter account: “With a broken heart Extremadura UD announce the death of their player Jose Antonio Reyes in a traffic accident.”
Clubs from all over Europe have joined those paying tributes to the Spaniard.
Barcelona tweeted: “FC Barcelona wishes to express their deepest condolences jose reyes arsenal the death of footballer José Antonio Reyes, a brilliant and charismatic player; one of the most outstanding figures and with a great trajectory in football. Rest in peace.”
AS Roma said: “#ASRoma are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of former Spain international Jose Antonio Reyes. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this tragic time.”
AC Milan joined their fellow Italians in expressing their condolences. “It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Spanish player, José Antonio Reyes,” the club tweeted. “All our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones at this tragic time.”

Spanish soccer star José Antonio Reyes died Saturday in a car accident, according to an announcement by his former club Sevilla FC.
Reyes, who was 35, played midfield throughout his career, which saw him win five Europa League titles and play as part of Arsenal's legendary "Invincibles" squad, which saw a 49-game winning streak.
"We couldn't be confirming worse news," Sevilla wrote in a Saturday tweet. "Beloved Jose reyes arsenal star José Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision. Rest in peace."
Spanish news agency EFE reported that the crash occurred around noon on a road between his hometown of Utrera and Seville. Emergency crews reportedly tried, but ultimately could not save Reyes.
In the 1999/2000 seasons, the player became the youngest in Sevilla history to make his debut for the club at age 16. He played with the club for five years before stints with Arsenal, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, and Benfica.
He then returned to Sevilla at age 27 for four years in 2012 before playing for Spanish clubs Espanyol and Córdoba CF, Chinese team Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard before joining Extremadura, his most recent team.
Reyes was a stand-out player throughout his career, representing Spain in 21 games and playing in the 2006 World Cup.
The announcement set off several posts from Reyes' former clubs and teammates to express their sorrow about his death.
"I am devastated to hear the terrible news about José," former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said in a statement, according to the Associated Press. "To his family and friends, all support from everyone in the Arsenal family. He will remain forever in our hearts."
Arsenal said it would fly the club flag at half mast at its training ground on Saturday.
Reyes' former Arsenal teammate Thierry Henry said in a tweet he was "devastated" by the news, and called Reyes a "wonderful player, superb teammate, and exceptional human being."
Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos wrote on Twitter in Spanish he was "Broken. Shattered."
"I have no words," Ramos wrote. "All the love to the family. We'll always remember you, friend! RIP brother."
